Finally, here is the IRS page for non filers to do an EIP return so they can get their stimulus money:

And, finally here is the page for people who have filed but the IRS doesn't have their banking info for a Direct Deposit:

https://www.irs.gov/coronavirus/economic-impact-payments

The banking info part is on the left. If you're a non-filer you need to use the EIP section on the right.

Remember, if you're collecting Social Security regardless of which camp you fall into, you're getting the payments through the SS info so you don't have to do anything.

Two clients called me today so say they got the money.

EDIT

I just got this in an email 20 minutes ago concerning a difference in how regular Social Security recipients and SSI recipients are handled:

WASHINGTON – The Internal Revenue Service, working in partnership with the Treasury Department and the Social Security Administration, announced today that recipients of Supplemental Security Income (SSI) will automatically receive automatic Economic Impact Payments.

SSI recipients will receive a $1,200 Economic Impact Payment with no further action needed on their part. The IRS projects the payments for this group will go out no later than early May.

When I do someone's tax return and they're getting either regular SS or SSI it's on the same form so I don't think twice about it. But for these payments there is obviously some kind of difference that impacts how these payments go out.

Fun times, it's not like people what this money or anything...

Bob

I got on the IRS website to help a family member determine when she would get her direct deposit and we discovered that if you gave your bank routing number to the IRS to pay what you owed them, they don’t automatically use that routing number to make a direct deposit. You have to go online a give them the routing number again or they will mail a check. They will only do an automatic direct deposit if you gave them your routing number for a refund deposit.

Well, to be fair when they say the "big majority" like 80% are getting their money fast, that is true. Most people get refunds and use DD. The IRS is only automatically paying by DD when you've done that on a tax return only or you're collecting SS or SSI.

If you gave them you bank info in order to pay them, that's irrelevant. The tax return system is completely segregated from other systems for security reasons so this new payment system doesn't know from any other sources of that info. As you can imagine identify theft and tax return fraud is huge. And even then with the rush to get this going I would be surprised if there isn't opportunity some way, some how for hacking.

The latest I've heard is even SS and SSI recipients are getting their deposits near the end of the month so maybe 10 days from now, the payments based on the tax returns are going out first.

One more little wrinkle, I have a client who's trying to get paid off his 2018 return and the portal keeps saying no information available or something like that. I checked that on some tax forums and wow, it's an epidemic. Nobody is getting through if it's for 2018. I'm hearing it's because they haven't linked up the 2018 data yet so they're only paying off of the 2019 returns and 2018 data should be ready in a few more days. It would have been nice if they had simply said that on the website. I can't really say that's actually true though but my source is in DC so maybe...

Here's another example of a special circumstance that requires "some" to act differently. This one concerns SS and SSI recipients who also have dependent children:

Issue Number: IR-2020-76
Inside This Issue

Special alert for benefit recipients who don’t file a tax return and have dependents

SSA, RRB recipients with eligible children need to act by Wednesday to quickly add money to their automatic Economic Impact Payment; IRS asks for help in the ‘Plus $500 Push'.

WASHINGTON – The Internal Revenue Service today issued a special alert for several groups of federal benefit recipients to act by this Wednesday, April 22, if they didn’t file a tax return in 2018 or 2019 and have dependents so they can quickly receive the full amount of their Economic Impact Payment.

Their $1,200 payments will be issued soon and, in order to add the $500 per eligible child amount to these payments, the IRS needs the dependent information before the payments are issued. Otherwise, their payment at this time will be $1,200 and, by law, the additional $500 per eligible child amount would be paid in association with a return filing for tax year 2020.

Following extensive work by the IRS and other government agencies, $1,200 automatic payments will be starting soon for those receiving Social Security retirement, survivor or disability benefits (SSDI), Railroad Retirement benefits, Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Veterans Affairs beneficiaries who didn’t file a tax return in the last two years. No action is needed by these groups; they will automatically receive their $1,200 payment.

For those benefit recipients with children who aren’t required to file a tax return, an extra step is needed to quickly add $500 per eligible child onto their automatic payment of $1,200.

For people in these groups who have a qualifying child and didn’t file a 2018 or 2019 tax return, they have a limited window to register to have $500 per eligible child added automatically to their soon-to-be-received $1,200 Economic Impact Payment. A quick trip to a special non-filer tool on IRS.gov by noon Eastern time, Wednesday, April 22, for some of these groups may help put all of their eligible Economic Income Payment into a single payment.

“We want to ‘Plus $500’ these recipients with children so they can get their maximum Economic Impact Payment of $1,200 plus $500 for each eligible child as quickly as possible,” said IRS Commissioner Chuck Rettig. “They’ll get $1,200 automatically, but they need to act quickly and register at IRS.gov to get the extra $500 per child added to their payment. These groups don’t normally have a return filing obligation and may not realize they qualify for a larger payment. We’re asking people and organizations throughout the country to share this information widely and help the IRS with the Plus $500 Push.”

There even more detail about this but this is enough to give anybody reading this who has dependent children to check it out further.

If the previous post isn't enough here's another thing.

It turns out that millions of people who use tax preparers who offer "Refund Acceptance Loans" or RAL's have their refunds sent to the bank that issued the loans and the only way that can happen is they're required to put that bank's info on their tax return instead of their own personal bank info. This is mostly firms like H&R Block, Liberty Tax, Jackson Hewitt and even Turbo Tax.

Guess where this is going? These stimulus payments are going to the bank that gave them the loan and the bank is using the funds to pay anything outstanding concerning that client including preparer fees. If there's nothing outstanding they're just sitting on that money until they hear from somebody. That part of this is official.

Now, how the hell can this be fixed? Can you imagine all these firms now have to scour their records concerning these loans and manually contact the bank, give them the taxpayer's info and then what? Hope the bank forwards the funds to them? How? Mail a check or what? No idea and good luck with everybody being short staffed and working from home due to the virus.

Some other preparers have their own way of handling refunds and collecting their fees. They'll do the same thing only the preparer is using their bank info on the clients tax return so the stimulus money is going to the preparer. One blog post from an EA said there is no name associated with the deposit. That not official but if that's true now there's an even bigger mess than merely having to deal with a third party bank to have them release the funds to the taxpayer.

Man oh man. I never liked the idea of tax refund loans anyway. My tax software does offer it and I would have to sign up with their affiliate bank. I'm not even remotely interested in that for a variety of reasons.

This is one good reason why.

So many of us are at an age where this stimulus thing is just a bonus. I personally don't need this money. However, I will be happy to accept it and apply it to bills. 2 people and 4 credit cards are quite happy about this. As far as all the whining I see daily on youtube about money being intercepted for back child support, for late payments owed to banks and such, that pretty much makes me hate people more than ever. I am 100% behind that. It's not MY fault you made bad choices with what money you have, so don't appeal to my sensitive side and seek pity. You will not get any.

Here's a plan. If you have kids, PAY YOUR CHILD SUPPORT!!! That money is NOT for your ex. It is for your KIDS!! One girl on youtube was crying abut her bank holding money back because she owed 3 car payments. If you saw the video you also saw that she has about $3000 worth of tattoos. Hmmm... Tattoos you have money for, but not to pay for a loan so you can have a car. Didn't these kids have parents that taught them about priority? Here's another plan. PAY YOUR BILLS and don't owe 3 back car payments.

I am SO sick of cleaning up other people's messes. Mow your own lawn. Take out your own trash. Pay your own bills. And don't waste your money on tattoos!

PS One of those 2 people who will be happy when I get this stimulus is the guy from whom I bought this.

The initial arrangement was that I would pay him back with the money from our first 2 gigs. Well..... Because some guy in China decided to eat bat stew, our band is likely to play exactly ONE gig this year. And THAT one may be wiped out too depending on how long the corona-tine lasts. So I will pay for that Tele out of my stimulus check and be done with that before it becomes a problem.

Wow, Bob (Jazzmammal). So some paid preparers have deposits into their own accounts and don't have a record of who it is for? That's a mess to figure out.

Finally yesterday the "Gimme My Money" portal figured out who I am and told me I will see a direct deposit on April 30th. Being that in my situation this is "found" money, it will go to two people to whom I owe money (for my Tele and my bathroom contractor) and the rest to 3 credit cards. Practical, financially anal retentive Eddie.... no casino trip, no frivolous spending... Just 2 people I no longer owe and a drastic chunk of my credit card debt gone. That will being me under $2000 remaining, which I will pay in 2 months. If not for musical instruments, guns, and my little trailer that I rigged for solar power, I wouldn't even have THAT debt.

So everybody who is laid off and musicians who lost dates, this should help you some.

Does anybody know how much of a vig those places that say "Come and get your tax return early!!" to mask the fact that it's nothing more than a short term loan with interest charge the suckers? Someone said it's often as much as 25%. I know the legit tax places like Block do it but there lesser known places who do nothing more than run a bootleg copy of Turbo Tax can charge anything they want. (I don't know why anybody with a very straightforward tax return would ever pay a preparer. Exotic returns with things like income from rental property, capital gains taxes and such, I get that. But for a working schmuck like I was my whole life, it's "This is your taxable income. This is your tax. Subtract and sign." To pay 100 bucks for that....why?)

Bob, you may know.

Actually I have no idea about RAL's. It's not my thing and doesn't affect any of my clients so I just watch from afar.

Matt, I was thinking about that the other day. I just checked my bank because I get SS deposits every month and on my online account statement the deposit does say US Treasury with my name. These stimulus payments could be the same (or not) but one easy way to find out is if someone reading this who got a stimulus deposit can check their account to see if their name is shown on the statement with the deposit. I still haven't got mine yet as a SS recipient. If it comes in soon then I can check to see if my name is part of the deposit. if it is then it shouldn't be a problem for these preparers. I still think it's sketchy for a tax preparer to have clients refunds going to their personal bank. I know the IRS frowns on that but if they can produce a signed authorization they have to accept it.

Bob, have you checked the "Where's My F'n Money" portal this week? After weeks of "We don't know", on Monday it said "You are scheduled to see your direct deposit on April 30th".

Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!

Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.

Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.

Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!

And, if you are looking for more, the 2026 49-PAK (for $49) includes an impressive collection of 20 bonus RealTracks, featuring exciting and inspiring additions to add to your RealTracks library.
