Friends,

Here is a recently completed song, Together, started in BIAB 2019 Windows, and finished in Mixcraft Pro 9.

I would be happy to hear from anyone with feedback of any kind.

Best Wishes
Glenn (Tiger)

Glenn,

Nicely done—very sorrowful but cool vibe to this. Love the bass in the background hitting all the right notes for me. And a good vocal to go with. Would have loved to have read the lyrics along with it, but no matter—the come through very cleanly on the tune. Really nice work on this.

All my best,

Deej

This is really well done, a great lazy nightclub feel throughout.

Perhaps the piano chords sit a little too front in the mix, masking the vocals just slightly.

Regardless, a nice delivery.

VideoTrack, thanks for listening; I appreciate the feedback. I know only a little about mixing. Considering your comment about the vocals and the piano being "in front", is it just a question of relative volume, or is there some EQ adjustment that needs to be done?

Best Wishes and Thanks Again,

Glenn,
A cool jazzy feel to this and you`re clearly comfortable in the genre.
I like the melody and your phrasing.
I agree your vocal needs to move a little in front of the piano...all part of the learning to mix curve, with some help from the good listeners here.
Folks usually post their lyrics & tracks with the song intro.

Hi Glenn ...

A really nice song! love the style and your perfect vocal intonation for the genre.

Regarding the piano, it's a just a bit loud (up front/too forward/ etc). bring the volume down a bit and I think you'll have this right where it needs to be. Leave the vocal as is and drop the piano back some. Leave everything else alone. That's my take, FWIW. Hope it's helpful.

One general rule of thumb I use: Using the vu meters/graphs, other than on the lead parts, I mix the backing tracks so none of them present louder than the vocal. there are some exceptions to that rule, but not many .. at least for me.

I really enjoyed my listen. Sweet!!!

Take care and be safe ...

Alan

Everyone, thanks for the feedback about the piano. I don't know how I missed it; I just listened to the track on Soundcloud and the piano was quite loud! I was probably too focused on my vocal.

I swear that piano slipped into the mixing room when I thought I was done wink

Alan, thanks so much for the feedback. Good advice on the vu meters...I have just been mixing by ear, not really looking at at each part. Are you doing this in BIAB or in a DAW?

Greg, delighted at your feedback. Piano tracks were Midi, using Forte while in BIAB, and then taken into Mixcraft DAW, using their Pianissimo VST.

Hi Glenn,

Your vocals are very good in this song; warm and close. The song itself is also nice with a sweet melody. But you can strengthen your song some more if you want:
1. On some occassions it felt as if you were singing was a bit uncertain. I think you can gain some more volume in your vocals if you sing with some more conviction, say more freely.
2. In the mix, I heard the trumpetsection was located on the far right. They were a bit to soft and I would place them a bit closer to the middle with a bit more volume.
3. About the piano you already heard they are too upfront, so I don't say much more on that.

Maybe you hate me at this point, but maybe it will help you. My approach is to help you.

Stay safe,
Hans

Glenn,

A nice song. An appropriate BAND. A pleasant vocal.

You've already gotten some good advice regarding the mix, so I'll just say...

Welcome to the Showcase.

Hans, thank you for your generous attention and feedback. I work alone and don't get a lot of feedback, as most of my life was spent in the computer industry, and in business, and I don't have a lot of musician contacts.

Although I have sung casually my whole life, this business of producing a finished recorded vocal is very different from casual singing, and I am still learning to sing. So yes, I am often uncertain in my singing.

I will go back and listen to the trumpet section and see how it sounds with a little more volume. I think there will be room in the mix for more horns once there is less volume on the piano.

Hans, thanks again for your heartfelt remarks.

Folks, this is a note to ask those who indicated that the piano was too much upfront in the mix: How were you listening to the music? Were you using headphones on your computer? Or speakers off the computer? USB or old style.

When I went back to hear my master, it sounded fine through my audio interface, with or without headphones. But when I listen via my inexpensive Logitech computer headset, I do hear the overly loud piano sounding largely isolated in the left ear.

If anybody is familiar with this problem or has any information for me, let me know.

Glenn
