After updating to 715 biab will not open, so reinstalled the 2020 Biab realband folder and it opens no problem, then I get prompted to update to 715 after letting Biab do this it closes and wont open again.
Anyone else experiencing this

Hey Beatmaster, Can I just confirm that you've resolved this for now? And for anyone else with a similar problem who comes across this: This is being discussed here: https://www.pgmusic.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=590966#Post590966You should contact AVG or AVAST and report a false positive, and in the meantime add an exception to bbw (or the bb folder if necessary, since Avast does not provide any information on what it is upset about, it may not be bbw64.exe).

I think its more of a case of Avast getting itself sorted out, these kind of problems with Avast have being going on for a few years now, not only with biab but in my case with Vacuum pro Vsti.
I had to get rid of Avast and haven't looked back since. At the moment I am using Kaspersky cloud free, works more in the background and no pop up nag screens like Avast either.
I think even PG are in a loosing battle trying to get this sorted out with Avast as it is going on for so long.
I would imagine they can send all the reminders that they like to the developers of Avast who probably won't even listen and carry on as normal.

I'm sure some here are tired of my expressing my concern about this advice but I'm glad someone from PGM posted about it so I will repeat my concern. David, as an official PGM recommendation, are you saying we should add an exception for virus checking to our bb folder? If so, please advise as to how this might put our computers at risk if PGM were to be hacked and we download and install an infected file to our bb folder. Please don't say it cannot happen because far bigger companies than PGM get hacked from time to time. I for one do not ever want to "bless" a program and exclude it from checking by my anti-virus program! I am disturbed that this is PGM's recommended solution! I have been using BIAB since 2012 with my current anti-virus program and upgraded every single time plus most in-between builds. And not once has this problem occurred. So I believe this is something in your latest build and NOT an Avast problem. Also I run a lot of other programs including Adobe's Creative Suite, video production tools and other music production tools. Not one of them requires me to grant an exception to my anti-virus program! Please fix BIAB!

...So I believe this is something in your latest build and NOT an Avast problem ... Please fix BIAB! Hi JJJ, this is definitely not meant to be in any way confrontational, but if every user that doesn't use Avast or AVG don't have this problem, then how can the problem be a faulty BiaB? Different A/V programs use different algorithms and apply search templates in different ways to detect for the presence of malware, tiny patterns of code that could be a virus. Any A/V program can occasionally get this wrong, and report a false positive. I run Norton 360 (paid version) on multiple systems. None report a potential issue. I'm not sure in what way PGM are expected to change their working program so that Avast doesn't incorrectly detect an issue.
BIAB & RB2026 Win.(Audiophile), Windows 10 Pro & Windows 11, Cakewalk Bandlab, Izotope Prod.Bundle, Roland RD-1000, Synthogy Ivory, Session Keys Grand S & Electric R, Kontakt, Focusrite 18i20, KetronSD2, NS40M, Pioneer Active Monitors.

In the same way they make sure it works with Windows and iOS they should make sure it works with commonly used virus software like Avast! And since this is not yet resolved, we may yet find out it is indeed something odd going on in BIAB that they can fix. I mean, every version of BIAB comes complete with new bugs like the stop button on previewing RealTracks so I'd suspect BIAB before I would Avast.

no problems with McAfee either so any virus issue with BIAB is a false positive which is hardly PG's fault

David, as an official PGM recommendation, are you saying we should add an exception for virus checking to our bb folder? You can add an exception to bbw64.exe until this issue has been resolved, then you can run Band-in-a-Box in the mean-time. You can still scan the files for viruses. If you do a targeted scan of the bb folder using Avast, it's clean. If you scan the files with dozens of AV software, they are clean. This is the Avast behavior shield that is doing it (if this shield is disabled, BB boots), so there is some difference in build 715 that is triggering it, however we have not determined what it is at this point. I will point out that Avast provides no information anywhere about why the behavior shield is blocking the file, even though all of the documentation and settings indicate that it should be reporting something..

We've been in touch with Avast, and I'm expecting that this will be resolved soon. There is a new build that is currently in pre-release testing and will be posted soon if no problems are found. This should fix the Avast issue.

Adding as a further note for anyone who may stumble across this in the future who might still be using 715, but 717 has been released and addresses this issue as well: https://www.pgmusic.com/support_windowsupdates.htm#717
