Howdy folks,
I am using BIAB 2014 for Mac, and would like to figure out how to transpose a 4-bar melody entered in the key of C into the 11 other keys for practice purposes. I see how it's done in the Windows version, and I know there MUST be a way to do this on the Mac, but I can't seem to find it. Any help would be appreciated!

In the Window > Practice Window > Transpose Songs menu, there is a "Each chorus that a song is playing, transpose by ___ semitones" option. I think using this could help you cycle through all 12 keys while practicing.

Let me know if that works for you.

Thanks for your reply!
It seems my practice window (version 2014) does not have that option. It has only 2 options: "woodshedding" and "break bars". That's it, I don't see an option for "transpose songs". Sorry if I'm missing something obvious!

You're right, in fact that option is not present on the Mac currently.

Thank you, Andrew!
Is there any work-around for what I am trying to do?
It's a 4-bar melody phrase, I would like to have it play in every key.
I've been using BIAB for 20 years and I'm stumped!
Thanks again for the help!

There are several old threads discussing the possible work-arounds. The most recent is this thread:

https://www.pgmusic.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=588344#Post588344

The workaround described is awkward, but doable.

I have actually saved an old version of BIAB for windows (running in Parallel Desktop) to use for just transposing stuff I'm working on into all 12 keys. Also awkward, but slightly faster when transposing multiple files.

Good luck, and keep asking PGMusic to please implement this functionality in a forthcoming patch release!

Yes, there multiple ways to accomplish this.

1. Assuming your 4 bar phrase is simply a 4 bar song. Press control+command+6 to transpose your song up a semitone, then play it, then repeat.

1b. To extend this idea further, you could transpose then save (shift+command+s) each transposed version as a new file, like 1-MySong-C.mgu, 2-MySong-Db.mgu etc., save these all in the same folder and use the Jukebox to play the folder of songs.

2. Or, make a single song that is made up of 12 * 4 bar phrases. Use Edit | Copy Special | Copy from..to.. to copy bars 1-4, and paste them starting at bar 5, repeating 10 times, and transposing up a semitone with each paste using the settings in that dialog. Save a copy of your original song first, so that you are doing this with a copy of the file.
