Getting there slowly. Using BIAB for recording demos to send to the rest of the band, particularly useful in the current climate. Starting to use Real Band a bit more which has really answered a question or two regarding the things I couldn’t do.

What I’m trying to do today is just for fun really. I want to add a realtrack to an old recording I have as a WAV file. I can load up the WAV no problem, change the tempo, etc. When I add the realtrack though (fiddle in this case) I can’t seem to get it to match to the WAV file. I’m thinking this should be pretty simple and hoping I’m just missing something really obvious.

Run the file through the ACW (Automatic Chord Wizard), which will give you a tempo map on a bar-by-bar basis, as well as the chord progression (which you may have to tweak). As long as the original audio wasn't too "all over the place", you should be able to successfully add your RealTrack. I've done this a bunch of tones successfully. RealBand is probably better than BIAB for this, since it can deal with fractional tempo values, whereas BIAB can only handle whole number values.

Billy Ray,

In support of John's advice above... the below video clip at PG Music's Youtube page might help.

I did exactly the same thing. I found the ACW needed a little bit of help because although it worked out the chords ok, some of them were slightly more complex than they needed to be. I knew my friend who sent the file would not have played some of the chords the ACW suggested so i simplified them which was easy as it was fairly obvious what the simple guitar chord should be. For example it suggested Dsus when all he did was lift a finger up!

My problem - and it may be yours - is that the original wave file was not recorded to a click track so timing wandered slightly. You may have got all the bar lines right with ACW but there is a video here about aligning to a click track in RealBand

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZCRt2hQ137M

skip to around 37 minutes.

If you need to align the bars and you get the chords correct you can add as many RTs and loops as you like.

Thanks Bob; i'm lucky as the original recording was pretty good timing wise. That said, I haven't quite got to grips with the bar lines, but it all makes sense now.

My small brain can't handle tOo much information at once so I was avoiding Real Band until recently. I'm kicking my self now with all those audio channels, compared to just the one in BIAB!! ;-)
