The following is not really what the song is about- just a trivia test for those interested. In my old trade there`s something called "borrowed landscape"- incorporating a distant landscape into the design. In songwriting you`d likely call it plagiarism, but I think it can work... you can let me know; if you don`t get the reference to a famous song in this sad ballad you must have been a Castaway Style is _HOMESIK.STY (Homesick Soft Pop Serenade) RealTracks in style: ~2474:Bass, Acoustic, Held Ev 085 RealTracks in style: 2195:Piano, ElectricVintage, Rhythm CoolJazzPopHeld Ev 085 RealTracks in style: 3059:Guitar, Acoustic, Rhythm Muted16thsFintan Ev16 080 RealTracks in song: 2542:Pedal Steel, Background ModernBalladAtmosphere Ev16 065 RealTracks in song: 3230:Guitar, Electric, Background CinemaHeldLowDarin Ev16 090 RealDrums [in style:CongasEv16[single] [Multi] Castaway in a field sitting adrift knees up to his chest a bitter boy`s first glimpse of a last breath he`ll soon find a tune wish I had more illusions planet earth is blue nothing I can do for a touch without hurting a heart quietly enduring with rescue uncertain through a gap in the curtain you`ll see his candle holding out he`ll be the hammer the anvil pray for an angle under a roof of ragged dreams for a touch without hurting a heart quietly enduring shining on endless islands count them above diamonds tears of the castaway city lights receding from on high visions rise on the ebb tide the boy will be a man marooned til he understands planet earth is blue one thing I can do touch without hurting a heart quietly enduring shining on endless islands count them above diamonds tears of the castaway © Robert Cordrey May 2020

Neat song. Poetic lyrics. The production of the song captures the mood perfectly. I think I get the hints you are giving. Reminds me of Ashes to Ashes "Do you remember a guy that's been in such an early song?"

The pedal steel works really well. The muted acoustic & percussion really belong together - well done - it's a very satisfying arrangement.

Hi Robert,
"planet earth is blue nothing I can do" - Major Tom?
Loved the whole thing.
Wonderfully atmospheric backing and the vocal and harmony were sublime.
Always like your lyrics - there's just so much which you can read into them.
One of your best.
ROG.

Good stuff, Robert, love the pedal steel and the congas!
Also like your vocals, especially the harmonies.
And no one writes lyrics like you do. I'm also thinking the Bowie song?

Robert,
A very original sound in all regards (I think) - lyrically, melodically and overall sound. A cool BAND. An expressive vocal and nice harmonies.
A good mix.
(the reference to any previous known work is lost on me)
I enjoyed the listen. It takes one to a new place...

ROG. First prize to you ROG for recognizing the David Bowie line! Major Tom was adrift on the airwaves when the young lad in the song was having a tough time. Many thanks for your kind comments. Robert

I fear I am a castaway, Robbert.
There wasn't any 'borrowed landscape' related to your song, much to my regred. So it must be an original song. I only recognized the style. I used it as well. Only some other instruments. Although I think I have given you enough compliments on your writing- and singing skills in the past, I will continue saying that again. Your voice easily gets you pinpointed to the song. It is soft, but so present! Enjoyed it very much. The band played very gentle. 'Even the pedal' had a nice role in the song. Nicely done!

Hi Robert Sitting in a tin can, high above the world. One of my favourites. Nice touch that your line the second time says there is something that can be done. Plagarism? I prefer to think of it as 'the folk process.' If it's good enough for the likes of Bob Dylan, who has borrowed both lyrics and melodies throughout his career, I reckon it's good enough for you and me. Always enjoy your lyrics and singing and this is another fine piece of work. Regards, Leon

Robert,
Great feel to this song. Some really creative near rhymes in this song that work well and a poetic, emotive write Terrific production work on this as well. I’m not sure how I feel about the Bowie lyric reference. I get the rationale, but that line is somewhat iconic—perhaps if it were more clear a reference to that song, it might work better for me and divert my attention less. A subjective comment—it will hit people in different ways—but offering it up for what it’s worth.
Enjoyed this one! Nice work!
All my best,
Deej

Love the imagery and the pedal steel is one of my favorites. A song that your mind can drift on and be interpreted by the listener. Interesting lyrics.

Hi Robert ...
I have to admit the reference passed right by me. But, at the time, i was playing nothing but what was then Contemporary Country ... 25-28 nights a month. So, 98% of my listen was country.
Regardless, this is one really great song. You've painted your own musical landscape ... a soundscape, I suppose ... that is so magnetic. it just clings to your brain ... in the best of ways. there's a magnetism that makes this wonderful listen cling to your soul. Such a wonmderful delivery!
Wishing you the very best ...
Alan

Neat song. Poetic lyrics. The production of the song captures the mood perfectly. I think I get the hints you are giving. Reminds me of Ashes to Ashes "Do you remember a guy that's been in such an early song?" Truth is I was never a big Bowie fan- I hadn`t heard that Ashes to Ashes song! Thanks for your listen and sending me there. The pedal steel works really well. The muted acoustic & percussion really belong together - well done - it's a very satisfying arrangement. Thank you! Good stuff, Robert, love the pedal steel and the congas!
Also like your vocals, especially the harmonies.
And no one writes lyrics like you do. I'm also thinking the Bowie song? Dave, This style is a kind of old friend for me now- I hope it doesn`t disappear from the menu! Thanks for the nod to my harmonies and lyrics. Yes, right answer to the trivia test! Yes, you got Robert,

fj Floyd, I appreciate those positives- thank you! Very pretty song Robert. Super vocal and harmonies. Love instruments you chose for the piece. Steel is a very nice touch. I missed the Major Tom. Loved this one. Well done Robert I`m pleased the reference wasn`t obvious, Scott- and glad you liked the song! Robert

We've never listened to Bowie...other than very peripherally...so the reference blew by us. Bowie's popularity was during our lost bluegrass years Irrespective of all that we enjoyed the walk across another one of your always creative and vivid sonic landscapes. As always you tell a story that leaves plenty of dots for the listener to connect. We like that. Standouts for us were your vocals and the steel. We've used that RT several before and feel it is one of the best. It adds so much and distracts from nothing. Really nice. J&B

Thank you for those likes, Hans. In retrospect I think I`d have done better to leave out that intro and just see if anyone recognised the reference. Hi Robert, this is a great tune all around. Thanks for posting.
