I was curious: Has any one experience (Pipeline, Matt?) with Plugin Boutique's Scaler (now version 2) and it's eventual usefulness with BIAB?

Ya, you are right. This is still planned. Also some good commentary by others in this thread on this topic.

Maybe that's the reason of it's commercial success.

Just like Windows: publish something that is basically nice enough and somehow useful, but quirky. Everyone starts adding mods or helping tools (f.i. Bob Norton's style stuff among others), thereby making more and more users dependable .... You almost get that impression; already in Atari days i mocked about a MIDI clock slave mode, and all that ever happened was that quirky VST plugin at least i cannot work with.

But i still like BIAB for too many reasons.

Arghh, always a struggle to get something nice out of it, that doggone primitive style maker, bar-beat counting missing the point, no verse-chorus-middle8 structure possible, RTs not RT-ing properly and missing out especially the halftiming sport, and yep, still not enough tracks among my main griefs.

And every time the work around: exporting as much as possible to a proper DAW and working from that further.

Fiddler, it was smart of you to ask how this could relate to BIAB. Otherwise, discussion of a product that might be regarded as a competitor to BIAB should more properly be discussed in the Off-Topic Forum.

Dan, I'm curious if you could elaborate on this sentence: The "write chords to file" feature in BIAB is not automated and requires "clean up" before the output is usable. I realize Scaler 2.0 only came out yesterday (a day before the announced release!) so take your time.

BIAB 2026 Win Audiophile. Software: Fender Studio One 8, Swam horns, Acoustica-7, Notion 6, Song Master Pro, Win 11 Home. Hardware: Intel i9, 32 Gb; Presonus Quantom HD8 & Faderport 8, Royer 121, Adam Sub8 & Neumann 120 monitors.

Yes, big learning curve will take time. Also best to chat over in Off-topic - I agree.

But the "...write chords to file" feature in BIAB is not automated and requires "clean up" before the output is usable" is a well known issue with BIAB and has always been that way.

This is directly related to BIAB's ability to output a midi file for the chord progression via the preferences OutputCh feature. This creates a midi file for the chord chart with all chords in the chart on a single channel. But that midi file also contains all other channels so the chord channel has to be extracted from the multiple channels. Therefore a simple drag and drop of this midi file will result in multiple channels being pasted. there is also a problem with the two bar lead in. This also comes over even in the midi file despite all attempts to not insert it. But you knew that. grin

I suspected the two-bar leadin was one. I’ve used the Output Chords feature many years ago with my Voice Live Touch and didn’t know all the other channels were sent out, too. Thanks for the info.

I don't have Scaler but you can drag n drop midi into Biab,
I just set how many bars to go into the midi file 0 that is the start
how many bars to import 8 that is the length
how many blank bars to start including BB 2 bar count-in 10 (2+8 blank bars) to start on bar 9
It will import to the Melody by default but you can move or cut n paste to another track
Have the Merge with Existing Data.. checked to keep adding:

Well, actually i was a bit curious if you could use Scaler as chording source preferably in realtime for BIAB. Wishful thinking i guess.

Meanwhile i read some about Scaler 2 reviews, and it seems buggy towards some DAWs. v 1.8 seems to be OK however. Wonder if it's worth the 37 GBP Plugin Boutique charges.

PS I have bought MusicComposer a while ago, it was not really cheap, but i never got the hang of it's interface. For me too complicated.

Our poor Scaler 2 developers are buried in bugs at this moment. But I am confident they will figure it out. A bit surprised by the issues given I was active in beta testing and all was going so good, then at launch even I had issues. In the meantime, play with the free 30 day demo to see if it is for you. Oh, but wait till they fix the bugs reported in the demo! grin
