Thanks Dave,
IF you hear any of my stuff that you'd like to drop a line on just let me know: I'm always happy to have an ace blues flavoured solo on most of my stuff.

Yep, will do.

Hans, the lyrics aren't direct or obvious, nor was my explanation. I think your interpretation is as good as any - I've not required anyone to hear and understander what I heard and understood in my head...I love the idea of the pub and that perspective joins dots in different ways which is good for brains, lyrics and music after all. The song is lyrically/thematically unpleasant really, but can readily be heard as a laugh about domestic situations. I'm happy that the ambiguity gives rise to a laugh. I laughed at myself for coming up with the chorus in the shower to start with.

Rayc,

Yeah, this rocks . . . love that punk sound. The vocal works just fine with this, but I’d love to have it sit up just a little more in the mix. For me it’s just a tad too buried in that great guitar sound . . . though I think it’s more of a personal preference—for this type of song it stands pretty well on its own as is. I listened to both versions but thought the “Crisper” was further along. Big thumbs up for me!

All the best,

Deej

Ray,
I like punk that doesn`t take itself seriously - your lyrics might be dark, (I got a few of them) but the sound is so pulsing growly and head banging fun, who cares!
I heard the updated track-you get into the spirit on the vocals and since its a demo your sending to vocalists I think its cool enough to attract some contenders.
Look forward to the next version.

Robert

Ray, I think this is a very good punk song. Although I'm not a big fan of punk I think that you captured the genre quite well, although I think it is a little on the mellow side of punk.

Nice vocal and mix. Great guitar work.

A head banger for sure.

Life is short so make sure you spend as much time as possible on the Internet arguing with strangers.

Thanks Deej,
Once I've incorporated the vocals that a volunteer has offered, (he's not sure if he'll do a lead vocal or a backing), I'll know whether I need to re-track my own or have a better option.

Robert,
I like the idea of a dark underbelly. The music came 1st. The chorus arrived in the shower. They were a match but reasonably inscrutable so I endeavoured to keep it that way. Enough hints for those who know I suppose.
I was looking for footage to make a video for the song but kept going to the obvious and literal. I'll have to start again from a more oblique angle.
Thanks for your kind words.

Mario,
Thanks.
Yes, I'm far too old and far too content to belt out a truly savage complaint.
I am a fan of the era - I was 19 in 76 and at teachers' college surrounded by mellow music and sophisticated pop - it was natural that I rebel and, despite my beard, long hair, flares & love of hard rock etc, I embraced punk. I still do.

Hello Ray ...

Yep ... has "PUNK!" written all over it. Reminded me of the late 90s, earl;y 2000s. I'm not the biggest fan of punk, but I appreciate any music that's well performed ... this qualifies. I do agree the vox could be just a wee bit louder ... even for punk. Just a personal observation, FWIW.

Best to you. Be safe ...

Alan

Well put together. Interesting lyrics. Definitely not my favourite genre, but I found it strangely, disturbingly, infectious.
I might listen to it again when I've had "a Bex, a cup of tea, and a good lie down."

Hi Rayc, Nice write the music has a great driving feel. I felt maybe the vocals could be a little louder as sometimes I had trouble hearing them or what you were saying. I don't listen to much punk, but I remember Joan Jett and her vocals were usually loud, sort of a yelling feel that complimented the music as angry and in your face. Interesting back story about where it came from.

Very cool song. I love the chorus. Great instrumentation. Nice song development (from BIAB to shower lyrics to final product. Nice!) Nice nod to the Sex Pistols at the end.

Nice gritty sound and appropriately dark (or black-humored) lyric. It's good to rush through these things sometimes. BB got you started and excited. If that ain't a "use" for it, "we" ain't listening. Your results are well worth hearing. Much enjoyed.

We listened to both several times.

I was lost in my blues/bluegrass years when punk broke so other than peripheral exposure I'm pretty naive. I was 30 in ’76 — maybe an old guy for the emerging genre smile

But, hey, a good production is a good production even to untutored ears. And this makes me feel I must have missed some pretty cool music during the mid 70's or so. When I came up for air Tom Petty was breaking and that detoured from me going down the punk road I guess.

One of many things we like about your productions is your ability
do an in your face mix and still have so much distinction amongst
all the tracks. I'm clueless as to how you do that.

Kind of a raw and counterintuitively polished vibe simultaneously is the
best way I can describe it.

We like the grit here. Grit is good. Cool guitar, vocal and is that bass every keeping things moving.

Slam on…

J&B

PS I’m not gonna offer any “punk ain’t my thing” caveats ‘cause good music is good music…period. My niece’s husband plays in a punk band and this makes me want to pay more attention to what he’s doing.

I could have sworn I heard this and commented. I must have listened and not commented. Sounds like dead-on post-punk. Reminds me of San Francisco circa 1982. Good use of BIAB. Great vocal recording. I like it (again).

202 New RealTracks Released with Band-in-a-Box 2026!

With Band-in-a-Box® 2026, we've released 202 incredible new RealTracks (in sets 468-488) in a variety of genres—featuring your most requested styles!

Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!

Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.

Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.

Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!

And, if you are looking for more, the 2026 49-PAK (for $49) includes an impressive collection of 20 bonus RealTracks, featuring exciting and inspiring additions to add to your RealTracks library. You'll get new country-rhythm guitar styles from PG Music favorites Johnny Hiland and Brent Mason, along with modern-pop grooves that capture today’s radio-ready sound! There are also new indie-folk styles with guitar, bass, 6-string bass used as a high-chording instrument, acoustic guitar, and banjo. Plus, dedicated "cymbal fills" RealDrums provide an added layer that work very well with low-key folky styles with other percussion.
