...Rightly or wrongly I figured that since I had purchased the latest version and installed the serial for 2019 had then lapsed and he then effectively had a 30 day trial of 2019 which ran out in Feb.... All good information above, but I think there also needs some clarification on the 30 day trial. You purchase the software up front and there is a money-back option, which essentially is a little different than the usual interpretation of a 30-day trial. I think you need to confirm with PG Music as suggested.
