Dave, I don't remember that holds or shots have ever worked in MIDI style-endings. The ending bars behave differently from others in several ways. Any chord after the first beat is ignored in an ending. The style (on that chord) plays the 8 beat pattern prescribed for the instruments. It will not change course to play a hold or a shot or a push, or anything else at all.
You can get into the Stylemaker and change the ending bars to suit, which is a good thing to learn, and a permanent solution to the trouble you have. Or you can straighten it all up later in a sequencer.
Well...you could also try using a hold in a tag (not an Ending -- plain bars only). I have never had musical results from that, but maybe you'll do better.
