First off, I'm running this on my laptop, which still has BiaB v2017 installed. But just a couple weeks ago I downloaded the latest files for Sforzando, so it should be current. And in the spirit of full disclosure, I'm using Sforzando in Cakewalk. But I have used it many times before in this same fashion within Cakewalk (and its immediate predecessor, Sonar), and it's never exhibited this deliberate forgetfulness. Also I should mention that this problem just cropped up yesterday, and I've never had this sort of issue before.
The tune has a single MIDI track, to which Sforzando is assigned, and the rest of the tracks are audio. I've selected a BiaB instrument -- Jazz Guitar to be specific. And, other than selecting an effects preset and then dialing in the volume, pan, and send amounts, I haven't touched anything else. And it's those three amounts which reset to -- I dunno? I guess default levels? -- which change as soon as I click on "Play." So, I'm hoping I've inadvertently touched something in Sforzando that might be causing the synth to forget the dial settings as soon as I start the song. When the dials reset themselves for -- I dunno, maybe the eleventieth time -- I moved on. I tried closing and reopening the file. Nope. I then tried shutting down and restarting Cakewalk, and then finally, what I usually resort to when nothing else seems to work, I restarted my computer. Nothing on all counts.
IIRC Cakewalk had/has a setting for resetting all controls on play. Thus all of your presets will reset to a default setting. Unclick that setting and you should be all set. Don't ask as I don't use Cakewalk/Sonar anymore and I can't remember where that setting is located.
The bumper sticker said "I'm a veterinarian, therefore I can drive like an animal". Suddenly I realized how many proctologists are on the road.

Hey Mario, I'm not familiar with such a Cakewalk command, but I went ahead and pored over the menu selections anyway -- couldn't find anything. I think I'll post a query to the Cakewalk Forum. But! I clearly recall that Sforzando's settings are independent from Cakewalk's. That command you speak of most likely only affects Cakewalk's synth settings. One of the settings in Sforzando, as you know, is a balance control. I found out by process of elimination that the only control I have of a Sforzando instrument's balance is via the control in the Sforzando app. No amount of cranking on the balance knob in Cakewalk had any effect. Same is true with the volume and send controls as well. So, whatever has changed with Sforzando, I'm not saying that Cakewalk didn't cause it, but I consider it to be highly doubtful.
To reiterate, this is something that just spontaneously occurred a couple days ago. I haven't changed any CW settings or any settings to Sforzando, other than doing basic EQ and volume controls within Cakewalk. But I've been doing this with Sforzando like forever and this hasn't happened before. I'm about halfway scared to call up any other songs where I have Sforzando resident, only to lose its settings when I play the file. Suppose I should give it a shot, though. Suppose I should also do the same within BiaB, see what happens.
UPDATE: I thought I should just add to the above rather than delete and start over. Turns out that there is a control in Cakewalk that will reach into Sforzando and modify its settings. In the Piano Roll at the bottom of the page, where you can assign controllers, the Volume controller (CC7) will reset Sforzando's volume and the EXternal Effects depth control (CC9) will reset the depth of reverb that's been selected. I've never had to use these parameters before, but if I have to get things set from this point forward, I'm glad to know they work with Sfz.
Sometimes when that happens with a midi file, it's because those settings changes are hard coded into the midi file. It sounds like that's what's happening in your song. Create a scratch SGU file with the same style and another midi file to recreate your song setup to determine if it's the midi file, CW or BIAB.
That's a good idea, Charlie. Only problem is I've spent a LOT of time on this tune post-BiaB in CW. There's too much work I'd have to redo and I'm not even sure I'd be able to retrace my steps. I suspect you're right though -- something got stuck in the MIDI file (or the MIDI instrument) somewhere and it can't easily be unstuck. I'm just glad to have figured out a workaround. I called up a couple other tunes where I'm using Sforzando in CW and this problem does not occur with them, which adds credence to your point.
Have you looked at the midi file in Cakewalk's midi Event window which you can open using the keyboard shortcut, Alt + 8?
Since your using CC7 to control volume level look and you may find a CC7 event near the top of the window. Delete the event and you should be ready to roll.
Going back to your original post, how are you using a Band-in-a-Box instrument, jazz guitar, in Sforzando, in Cakewalk? The Band-in-a-Box jazz guitar instrument is confusing me.
Was the midi track downloaded from the internet or did you create it? Is the midi track one track removed from a midi song file or does the single track compose the whole midi file?
Can you post the midi file online or attach it to a post so others can look at it?
What happens if you use another sound module beside Sforzando?
