Another private track that I'm only sharing on here for now. Reason for all the privacy is: I'm thinking of writing a musical (or somesuch soundtrack album, at least!) :-) - so need to keep some tracks private for now, i.e. not in the public domain. This is one of them ... it would have been perhaps best if I'd put it into the context of the rest of the potential future musical, but - even so, on its own ... what do you think of it? I'm beyond grateful if you find the time to listen and even, perhaps, to comment! Thanks!

Thank you so much, PG Music; without Band-in-a-Box, none of this would be even remotely possible!!!

Pleasant enough. I'd like to understand how it fits in your musical/soundtrack--is it intended to eventually have a lyric/melody? I agree that putting it in some context would help on commentary--does this describe a particular mood or situation? It's a lovely basis, I'll give you that!

Hmm :-)

It's still early days, but the idea is to write about an old priest who is remembering his younger days, particularly a meeting with a woman that he had prior to becoming a priest (and which was, in fact, the catalyst for him becoming said priest).

I wrote a piano version of this track, but much simpler and different, to depict their actual meeting, back in the day; this track is him reminiscing (in his old age) and looking back on said meeting - with the benefit of acquired wisdom and hindsight, etc. .

The beginning few bars is him settling down to pray to the Female Archetype (Mother Mary, etc.) found in most religions (he doesn't have to be a Christian priest per se, but that's a whole other matter, haha ...) - and the E-flat-starting melody in the clarinet which comes later is quoted from the earlier piano version mentioned above, and is meant to depict his thoughts drifting - mid-prayer - from the prayer to the days he spent with said woman - returning to the B flat prayer melody of the beginning at the end.

The way I'd do the musical is as follows: one man on stage (depicting the priest), in his room (or perhaps the sacristy). A painting of the Virgin Mary on the wall, perhaps a white rose in a vase, a book, a desk, pen and pencil, a chair, etc. . No words spoken or sung by him, just acting out the story through gesture, movement and perhaps even mime as the songs play on the theatre loud system, with a projector projecting images on stage (onto the wall of his room or perhaps sacristy) to depict his memories. So: the songs may include lyrics - some of them at least - but the actor on stage would neither speak nor sing, instead letting the story tell itself. The woman would therefore, of course, also never appear on stage - being, as she is by the time he's old, but a memory - at least not whilst he's depicted as an old man, of course.

Sorry - you asked for context, haha ... here's some :-) Does it help? :-)

P.S. for even more context, if you've got nothing better to do with your time than listen to my stuff, lol ... here's the piano version I mentioned above. It's not done with BIAB, that's why I didn't post it here ... but, for context:

https://soundcloud.com/jamesdelsono/pas-de-dieux/s-Ky84mj0TmJq

(the word "Dieux" instead of "Deux" is deliberate here, although I may change it back, we shall see!)

Thanks! :-)

Lovely and atmospheric!

Well done and good luck with the project.

PS and FWIW:
Making it available to the public does not put it in the "public domain." I'm assuming you mean public domain in the sense of available and free to all. Otherwise everything on every platform would be PD. Simply posting your song is actually tantamount to copyrighting it per the date time stamp. Although there are a LOT of topics on this the bottom line is no worries when posting. Just put a © statement on it and let er go. 24 of our songs posted on this forum via SC are licensed by various entities and they are certainly not PD!

Our albums and singles are on Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, YouTube Music, Pandora and more.

Wonderful James beautifully simple and enchanting. You might need to rethink the title as Bette Middler has had a gigantic hit with her song called the rose. Just sayin'

Sounds nice. I second Bud and Janice's comment about the public release of your song. If anything, in my opinion, it only strengthens your case as to who is the composer to get it up online earlier. There may be some other reasons, such as marketing, etc, to hold off from presenting it too earlier. But proof of authorship is not one (as I said, in my opinion.)

This is not to say that you should not register your copyright with the Library of Congress if you plan on commercial use of your song. Registration is not the same as copyright. It is simply registering your claim of copyright with the Library of Congress, and there are plenty good reasons to do that if your song is to have any commercial success.

Good luck with your project.

Steve

Hi James.
I like this - can I steal it ? smile (just kidding).
To me it invokes an image of an older couple strolling along a beautiful river bank in happy recollections
of their life together. Nice piece of music.

Beautiful melody, peaceful arrangement, definitely sounds like a musical tune with some classical elements in a country waltz - the flute is mixed nicely giving the whole piece sort of a stage environment.

Wow - thank you everybody! This is what happens when I'm away for two days from the forum, haha ... THANK YOU :-)

Janice, Bud, Steve: "public domain" was indeed very much the wrong expression to use for what I meant! I did not mean it in a legal, copyright sense - though that's what that expression is usually used for, I know. My bad! I simply meant: I do not want to make the songs public before I think it's time ... hopefully when the whole thing is ready, if it'll ever be (so much to do in this life, so little time). That's all I meant ... genuine thanks, though, for the legal thoughts and sorry to have bothered you all on the subject without meaning to!!!

furry: yes, I see the problem with the song by Bette Middler - BUT I am absolutely adamant that the heroine in this musical project of mine will be called Rose, so perhaps dropping the "the" is enough? ;-) Anyway, thank you so much for listening and commenting!!!

Thanks again everyone for listening and for such kind comments!

202 New RealTracks Released with Band-in-a-Box 2026!

With Band-in-a-Box® 2026, we've released 202 incredible new RealTracks (in sets 468-488) in a variety of genres—featuring your most requested styles!

Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!

Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.

Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.

Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!

And, if you are looking for more, the 2026 49-PAK (for $49) includes an impressive collection of 20 bonus RealTracks, featuring exciting and inspiring additions to add to your RealTracks library. There are also new indie-folk styles with guitar, bass, 6-string bass used as a high-chording instrument, acoustic guitar, and banjo. Plus, dedicated "cymbal fills" RealDrums provide an added layer that work very well with low-key folky styles with other percussion.
