Please note that I said, "still have hopes that he can HELP US pull it out of the dumps", not "believe that Obama is going to single-handedly save the world".

I am, at heart, a realist.

I think that will be it for me in this thread, because I really wanted to stick to what I thought of the song.

I'm already involved in a political forum elsewhere, which is really one too many as it is.

Edited portion "I truly believe this holds true no matter who is in the White House and/or Congress"

One more point that I will make regarding why I don't believe spending as much as you can as fast as you can will help the situation. This is How Gubmint Works.

Once upon a time the government had a vast scrap yard in the middle of a desert. Congress said, "Someone may steal from it at night." So they created a night watchman position and hired a person for the job.

Then Congress said, "How does the watchman do his job without instruction?" So they created a planning department and hired two people, one person to write the instructions, and one person to do time studies.

Then Congress said, "How will we know the night watchman is doing the tasks correctly?" So they created a Quality Control department and hired two people, one to do the studies and one to write the reports.

Then Congress said, "How are these people going to get paid?" So They created the following positions, a time keeper, and a payroll officer, Then hired two people.

Then Congress said, "Who will be accountable for all of these people?" So they created an administrative section and hired three people, an Administrative Officer, Assistant Administrative Officer, and a Legal Secretary.

Then Congress said, "We have had this command in operation for one Year and we are $18,000 over budget, we must cutback overall cost." So they laid off the night watchman.

Does anybody remember the reason given for the establishment of the DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY .... During the Carter Administration?

Bottom line.. We've spent several hundred billion dollars in support of an agency . the reason for which not one person who reads this can remember!

It was very simple ... and at the time, everybody thought it very appropriate.
The Department of Energy was instituted on 8-04-1977. TO LESSEN OUR DEPENDENCE ON FOREIGN OIL..

AND NOW, IT'S 2009 -- 32 YEARS LATER -- AND THE BUDGET FOR THIS "NECESSARY" DEPARTMENT IS AT $24..2 BILLION A YEAR. THEY HAVE 16,000 FEDERAL EMPLOYEES AND APPROXIMATELY 100,000 CONTRACT EMPLOYEES; AND LOOK AT THE JOB THEY HAVE DONE! THIS IS WHERE YOU SLAP YOUR FOREHEAD AND SAY, "WHAT WAS I THINKING?"

Over and out,

2009-2011 will be the ultimate test for John Maynard Keynes and his theory. No matter what dude anyone elected to 'lead', that dude is stuck with the fact that the thinkers have become Keynesian.

The odd thing is that to the south of me everything seems so totally polarized, (polarised to the Commonwealth types), but I think at the end of the day both poles are Keynesian. Odd.

Clinton's cigar....and how it altered the course of history was the subject of a paper someone read at the local university. They should have asked me to speak at the after party during cocktails. At least it kept the talk shows I read about in material for some months. We get the best of last night about every 2 hours on the radio. Because they are talking about American stuff I often have go "WHAT???" or fire up google and try and figure out who's laughing and why.

One thing about Clinton's cigar. No matter how it tastes, it still stinks.

Josie,

I'll bet you never thought that this thread would head in this direction!

All it takes is one comment and "thar she blows"!

I still liked the clip. I also enjoyed the clips that made fun of Bush.

If you run for that office, then you are asking for it.

LOL. Keep putting out those sweet songs of yours.

If I'd written a song about politics I'd call it "congress is a cesspool". They wade in, wallow around for years, then point to the other guy claiming he stinks.

I thought my friend did a good job of making fun without going too far. So I'm glad most enjoyed a good laugh.
