Can anybody else corroborate?

I just installed RB 2020 and have been using it this evening. I'm having a problem with the EDIT > TRACK > CONSOLIDATE AUDIO REGION operation. It doesn't ALWAYS do this, but I have had several times when after consolidating the audio in a track, part of it disappears.

Once, in a track where I had deleted a section in the middle leaving audio to the left and right of the deletion, the part of the left of what I had deleted vanished after consolidating.

Next time I tried to consolidate only the highlighted region of a track, and this time in a stereo track, the right panned portion remained while the left panned portion vanished.

And on a third occasion while trying to undo the effects of a consolidation I got an error, then the program locked up. Don't know if it is related. When I tried to restore the project I got a message saying the data was corrupt... but then it opened.

The computer runs on Windows 7

I just loaded up some audio on a stereo track. I then proceeded to chop up the the content and cut/paste into different areas on the track. I highlighted certain areas and moved them around. I sometimes just overlaid the content into the track; other times I inserted the content (which pushed everything on the right farther to the right. I dragged areas both left and right. And in the end, I selected everything and consolidated the audio region and everything seemed to work fine (at least for me). Audio region consolidate is a feature that I use a lot, so hopefully others can weigh in on this as well. If I do find a problem later working with my songs, I'll definitely post back.

Obviously not a definitive test, but a cursory test indicated it worked. It might be related more to working with it over a period of time as temp files are created and maybe something gets confused.

Thanks John. I appreciate the time you took to test local results.

FWIW... it worked for me too (until it didn't)

The problems came at the end of a long recording/editing session. I'll try again today from a fresh reboot.

I worked with some audio similar to John and didn't have any issues.

If you are able to duplicate it again, then it would be good to save a .SEQ with the “before consolidation” version of the track, so you could email it in, or email in a link.

Thanks,

This is the problem. I only get involved in a long, complex project a few times a year and what I've found is RB definitely becomes seriously wonky at about the one or two hour point of continuous editing of any kind. I've learned to save every five minutes or so and close/reopen the program every hour. Not the computer, just RB.

What's wonky? If it's midi, after an hour of generating or regen different style tracks, using the piano roll, doing edits, copy and paste, delete some parts, edit individual notes, I'll suddenly realize an edit didn't stick or I'll see completely wrong notes that I didn't create. At that point all I can do is close and reopen the song. If i had done a save a few minutes before not too serious. If it was 45 minuets ago I will be upset. Similar thing with audio tracks. An hour or so of heavy editing like I described with midi, same thing. Everything seems fine until it isn't and I'm forced to close and reopen.

Here's a new one (or two) for the "wonky list"

Yesterday, after working all day on a project, I noticed that the rendered WAV was 4 or 5 times longer than the actual song. Going back to the RealBand file, I saw that the last track I had consolidated somehow left a residual audio presence wayyy out about a thousand bars beyond the end of the song. I had to scroll out and delete from there to the end of the song so it would generate properly. Never saw that problem before.

The other new problem was that I was using piano roll to manually enter MIDI. At some point I decided I didn't like it, so I muted the track. But... I could still hear it! Then I deleted the track. I could still hear it! I muted all tracks. I could still hear it!

No idea what happened there.. but fortunately I had just saved the file after my last changes and was able to start fresh from that point. Good thing I didn't save the version with the ghost MIDI!

Pat,

No suggestions for the 1,000 bar add-on; that's too weird! But for the second issue have you checked to see if there is an audio file with the same name as your project file in the project folder? That will automatically get loaded into the (normally hidden) audio track on the mixer and playback with your song. If so just delete or rename the audio file. Duh, that's true for Band-in-a-Box, not RealBand.

Sorry Pat, I didn't realize which forum section I was in. I should have looked harder!

Wouldn't have mattered if you saved the bad version, you'd be able to open a backup and get back to a good version wink
Well usually.

For the long ending, instead of scrolling to the end, save time by using From-Thru; set it to start one bar after the song ends and Thru to bar 3000. Doesn't matter if you go way past the real end point.
Then Cut (and Close Gap).

At least it worked for me when I saw this weirdness.
I haven't seen it in a long time though. What version of RB?

good idea... I usually do use that dialog. In this case I wanted the visual satisfaction of watching the serpent's head get severed.

I had to go look because I have multiple computers with old versions of BIAB installed. As it turns out, for this project I was using Power Tracks 2014. When I'm not generating tracks I like to use it because its pretty stable. Having said that, its kind of a moot point citing problems I encounter in software that is 6 years old, and wrong forum to boot. My bad.

Sounds like this file is from back during that couple years where the never-ending song issue was happening.
It wasn't common, but not unheard of either. That was quite a while ago.

Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!

Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.

Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.

Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!
