I do not think so.

It is generated by the drivers or BIAB from within the PC.
The fact that it is also being output by the external interface indicates that it was "deliberately" sent via the USB bus in the form of data.

Do you get that noise if you disconnect the laptop from the AC power supply and just run off the battery? If it's clean on battery, you probably have a ground loop problem with the laptop power brick. In that case, check out this video for some ideas to try.

Absolutely no change in any noise patterns with battery/power, different cables, different amplifier.

This noise is being generated by BIAB or both drivers or what?

Sounds like interference to me also.

My church has the same problem and I have never quite found the source.

C'mon folks,

Surely 'ya all know that digital audio cannot have simple interference like in the 1990s? USB is a digital bus with checksums on the data packets so it is impossible to have what you are now saying.

I would also like to hear from PG Music about this.

Hi

“All very unsatisfactory.”

Yes indeed most intrusive, as a mater of interest how is your audio normally when just using say windows media player or whatever you use as a music player.
Both via the pc or the audio interface and Behringer.
Is your audio clean when the player is stopped or on pause.

So, I have reset the OS back to factory.
Another whole afternoon spent on this...

However, I copied the whole bb folder back afterwards and I re-installed just the BIAB and Realband application with the 1 .exe.

Now, on the headphone socket:

WhenI connect the amp there, I get asked if it is a headset, headphone or external speakers (Dell dropdown list for speakers).

If I choose headphones or headset, the sound is back to pretty average and quite soft. But absolutely no noise.

If I choose external speakers and ANY in the list, I get better sound and much louder BUT it then has that very low frequency flutter - fan waving in it.
Super annoying and not usable. I will try and get a video of that but it will be hard as it is very low freq.

This is identical with MME and WAS. Audio Enhancements box ticked and unticked.

In both cases, the noise as per the previous videos is now gone.

Far out!

I have not installed anything else like Behringer or ASIO.

No, it is not the mic. i tried disabling that.

Hi again
When you do try the interface and again, make sure all unused audio inputs are turned down open unloaded sockets turned up will produce noise.Especially high gain inputs like mic preamps.
As Mat says above:
“let's not leave out the possibility an audio input is turned up with nothing connected.”

I think it's some form of positive feedback loop.

If it was an internally generated BiaB issue, then I would expect yours would not be an isolated case. I would think this would be more well known.

While I don't know the answer to resolve your problem, and I haven't had an opportunity to follow this thread in greater detail, am I correct that this only started with your new computer?

In addition, and forgive me for not knowing all of the details, does this only occur with BiaB and no other audio programs?

we keep going round in circles. way back you started by saying you didn't like the Windows 10 sound. now after resetting the laptop you say "In both cases, the noise as per the previous videos is now gone."

so BIAB seems to work fine on both but you don't like the sound on Windows 10. headsets work fine but plugging into a speaker system gives a flutter. sounds like the speaker setting on the laptop isn't working right or your speakers introduce the noise and the fault is there.

and you haven't tried using the behringer driver and the behringer unit audio output which would cut out the laptop's internal sound totally and if it works give you high quality audio.

Bob, you are misunderstanding me.
I am not using headphones. I am using the same amplifier thoughout all the tests on all computers.

The only difference is that this computer asks every time whether I am plugging in a headset or external speakers. Between choosing 1 or the other, I now get the original bad muffled sound or the flutter. But the physical equipment and connection is always the same.

Before resetting the OS but after Dell made me upgrade the drivers, it did NOT ask what is plugged in and I had the previous noise.

So yes, a circle of sorts but that is what the support has instructed.

I have not installed anything further since because repeating the same experiment over and over and expecting a different result is futile.

I have a huge investment in this and now it looks like I will never be able to use it for it's purpose.

I am totally demotivated and basically out of energy.

EDIT: I just read this on another site:
Quote:

So far, the 2020 updates to Windows 10 have caused a plethora of sound problems, including audio that just won’t work and third-party app audio that’s too low to use properly.

Oh, my. Surely you don’t think digital audio systems are immune from EMI or its subset, RFI. There are so many possible generators of noise both inside and outside of your computer. Any wire can be an antenna. Components can be defective. The beginning and end points, microphones and speakers, are analog. We are only trying to help based on experience.

Your input is greatly appreciated
But as an electronics engineer (actually with major experience in EMI), I will state that there is no analog path between BIAB and the Behringer unit so for it to produce an identical noise pattern as the headphone socket output the PC, rules that out.

The fact that that noise has gone since reverting the OS, would also substantiate that.

Poking around again, I discovered that Dell mandates the the latest Realtek HD Driver be used with:

Waves MaxxAudio Pro which features CoreAudio by Apple Inc.

That is the app that asks whether I have Headphones or speakers connected every time.

That is - in my opinion - likely causing the problem(s).

Does anyone know anything about this?

Hey Everyone,

I HAVE IT SORTED!!!!!!!!!

(I think)

The MaxxAudio Pro application (which was never mentioned by any support) has a built in equalizer and other settings = enhancements.

I have just managed to change them for the headphone option settings to produce excellent audio and stop the muffled output.
Zero noise, zero flutter.

Nobody from Dell or otherwise seems to know about this. I found it while looking at driver upgrades on the Dell site and while trying to find and install the missing Realtek HD Audio Manager

Far far far out!!!!

I hope I can get the ASIO driver working next and then I may try old Behringer one more time.

That’s really great!

It reminds me of the old Sound Blaster and their built-in ‘helpful’ sound processing software. EAX or some such.

Fantastic, pleased that you appear to be moving in the right direction at last. The rest should be fairly straightforward (hopefully).
