My post may have come across poorly. It wasn't meant to be nasty. I apologize.

When I read Mac's post, I read it as: "Well, if you really have to hear it..." as if Mac finds that voicing truly unpleasant, which I thought was funny.

But his workaround is beautifully simple.

Regarding workarounds such as that, I used to do something similar for beginner and intermediate guitarists in school bands. If a score had, say, D11 (or D9sus4), I got a lot of concerned looks. I would tell them to change it to C/D or Amin7/D and just play the C major or Amin7 and let the bass player worry about the slash note. For Cmaj9, I'd just say play Emin7 and it'll sound fine when the bass player plays the C.
