Hi there. I'm sure this has been asked before but my search results were irrelevant to my problem.
I've got BB2020 Omnipack Audiophile edition and having a hard time with some unruly virtual band members who refuse to play the chords entered and instead insist on playing dominant 7ths, major sevenths, or sixths instead of the requested chord.
On rare occasions it can work, but most of the time it completely ruins the song and the feel I'm going for. Quick example - RealTrack 2547 Guitar, Acoustic, Rythm GroovinFold Sw16 085. Type in 12 bars of G major (4 bar intro plus 8 bars before next chord change). Mr Quinn keeps changing between G major, Gma7, and G6. If I wanted those chords, I'd type them in.
I've tried disabling re-interpreted chords and forcing simple arrangements for that track, and I can't hear any effect (I can play by ear, so I would notice).
Are there any other settings, or am I forced to render out 5 different takes and stitch them together manually in Ableton Live?
Definitely you should disable Natural Arrangements as well, if you haven't done this already.
Also check that you haven't previously created an audio of the song which would play along with the BiaB Song file if it is available. I think an audio file will be in the same location as the BiaB song file, with the same file name but an audio file type extension (.mp3, .wav etc)
BIAB & RB2026 Win.(Audiophile), Windows 10 Pro & Windows 11, Cakewalk Bandlab, Izotope Prod.Bundle, Roland RD-1000, Synthogy Ivory, Session Keys Grand S & Electric R, Kontakt, Focusrite 18i20, KetronSD2, NS40M, Pioneer Active Monitors.
I was able to test this. At first right out of the box Mr Quinn puts a lot of chords tone embellishments other than the triad in his groove based on the transcriptions. When I "disabled" natural selection AND "forced to simple arrangement [non-embellished]" I do see we lost all the major 7ths, however, he continued to still slip in the sixths and nineths.
I guess I have confirmed your observations. Sounds very nice, but I can appreciate that you may not want that extra flavor in your chord backing. This is simply the way BIAB RTs do what they do.
So let me just add. BIAB is not the only tool which can add a strum accompaniment. There are Kontact libraries which can provide an alternative backing.
Thanks for the reply. I did purchase Kontakt 12 Ultimate and Session Guitarist last year at 50% off before discovering BB. They're good quality but a bit too static/repetative compared to BB. For now I'll have to keep rendering and regenerating 2+ takes of a track and stitch them together manually in the DAW. I tried subbing in other real tracks but none quite had the right groove this time around, so I'll stick with Mr Quinn.
I know this isn't the correct answer to your issue, and I wish this could be done inside BiaB, but if you have RealBand, then you can select just the bar(s) that you want to regenerate, and even use the multi-riff feature, which might save a lot of time and make the job easier for you.
BIAB & RB2026 Win.(Audiophile), Windows 10 Pro & Windows 11, Cakewalk Bandlab, Izotope Prod.Bundle, Roland RD-1000, Synthogy Ivory, Session Keys Grand S & Electric R, Kontakt, Focusrite 18i20, KetronSD2, NS40M, Pioneer Active Monitors.
Exactly what I use. With some key switches and playing in live you can do wonders with this. It is my go to for strummed acoustic guitar when BIAB is being difficult. But it does have a learning curve. Don't give up on it.
