Well that window shows where you can open a multistyle ... but I still only see information for A and B parts in that window or in the main stylemake after you open a style using the 'misc' button and window.

Multi-styles are really just a number of individual standard styles chained together, each of which has A and B parts.
So to create a multi-style, you must first each choose or create each of the different styles you want, each of which will have an A and B part.
Then, in the multistyle selection (under Misc in StyleMaker), you select each of the individual styles to comprise the multi-style. When you save it, generally the naming convention is to end it with a plus (+) sign.
Then what happens is the first style's A section is A, B is B. The second style's A section become C; the second style's B section becomes D; the third style's A section becomes E; the third style's B section becomes F; etc.

John,
I'm a little dense. What you say makes sense regarding the 'chaining,' presumably not so different than what happens when you add something using the part markers. So I understand you to be saying that when you load the 2nd 'chained' C & D part in the stylemaker, in the stylemaker it will just show them as normal A and B parts. What you say seems to explain how to create a multistyle, but it is not clear to me how you'd edit one after you made it.
First I note that when you hit the Help button on the 'Misc. Style Settings,' there is nothing there about the Multistyles section of the window. Second, on page 204 of the 2009 BIAB manual where it describes the 'buttons' in the stylemaker, there is no documentation at all about this window and I couldn't find anything in the index. Point: I'm trying to do my homework.
What I don't understand is how you 'toggle' back and forth between the two 'chained' style files. Whatever I open either using the "Misc. Styles Settings" window or from a song using the "Edit Current Style" only shows A & B. When I open the "Misc. Styles Settings" Window I see the name of the selected style with the + sign, a button to open the styles directory and a little drop down menu box below with the choices of 'None" or "Method 1 (Pop)" beside text that states Automap to A/B.
What am I missing? How would I know which A and B parts were in the stylemaker, i.e., A and B or the A/2be C and B/ 2be D? How would I 'toggle' between the two? Or, is it a matter of identifying the 2 style files individually that have been 'chained' and opening each up by itself? Is there a convention for naming the underlying 1st A and B and, in distinction, the 2nd A and B (C and D)?
Finally, are you also saying that you can extend this process and 'chain' more than 2 styles? I know that using the part marker dialog it looks like you could do an infinite number ... not that you'd want to.

Open up a multistyle. For example, I used "PIANO+" (see image below). When you click on the "Misc" button, you will see that the multistyle also uses "PIANO2".  So PIANO2 becomes your C/D parts. If you want to add more styles to this multistyle, just type in the style names separated by semicolons. So the second style in the list becomes the E/F parts; the third style becomes the G/H parts. I don't remember how far you can go, but it seems to me it's something like "X", so there's plenty of room to play. To edit each style, you have to do that separately just like editing any other style. I know for the PGMusic multi-styles (haven't tried with my own), the substyle names don't show up in the style list, so you have to use the "Open style from disk" command. When you edit them, you will only see the A/B part, because it's just like any other style. But it will become the C/D or E/F part in the context of the defined multi-style. I hope that helps explain it.

^^John ... Thank you! You've made everything perfectly clear.
I was wanting to understand this so that I could consider making my own multistyles.
However, now that I do understand it, I'm not sure that it's worth the extra effort over instead simply making several separate styles using the same bass and drums in each style with possibly a few midi note variations, then different guitar, string and piano parts and finally just hitting F5.

With Band-in-a-Box® 2026, we've released 202 incredible new RealTracks (in sets 468-488) in a variety of genres—featuring your most requested styles!
Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing.
