BIAB 2010 build 294 - HP Pavillion 3020EA Win 7 Home 64-bit

Was working fine yesterday.

Starts off with the 'Unable to use midi driver GS: Wavetable...' etc. and then no sound plays when generating the tracks.

When I look at the Audio drivers I have ASIO4ALL and the correct speakers of my laptop selected. When I hit OK I get 2 messages:

Error creating ASIO buffer

Error starting ASIO driver

When I get back to the main screen BIAB crashes

Perhaps ASIO in the version you have is not 64 bit. I put a fiver on that.

OK so I got lazy and looked it up. Unless you are running 2.10 beta it doesn't mention Windows 7 at all.

Even then the wording implies it might not work at all.

I don't use it, thought I needed it, spent days mucking with it and then got slapped upside the head. Didn't need it.

Which begs the other question, why do you need it?

Well, it seems to be OK now, after I put the laptop to sleep for a bit.

I've been using it with no probs for a month. Thought it was supposed to be better than MME with the internal soundcard but I've just tried the latter and I think it's fine. Plus it seems to get rid of the soundcard in use message too.

Maybe I'll try MME with Sonar also. When I'm not mobile I use ASIO with a Tascam 122L.

Thanks

ASIO cannot run, according what I've read, on 2 applications at once. It's a limitation.

You have to close the one application and then start the other. MME works fine with more than one application running.

You also need to have ASIO running before opening the program.
If it is started afterwards the program won't load it when opening.
As John, mentioned, it will only work in one program at a time, so if it was opened in another and not shutdown properly it will give errors when attempting to be opened again.

MME does make these aspects easier to deal with. And you are wrong in your assumption that ASIO is 'better' for most applications. ASIO is needed on two occasions; when you want to play a MIDI keyboard and pull the sound from the computer in (close to) real time, or when you want to use effects from the computer in real time on a soundsource coming in the line in of the soundcard. Otherwise you'll hear no difference.. and add load on the system.

ASIO is great when it is needed, not knocking it, but it does have it's caveats.

I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

As I have a keyboard, hooked in the thru channel, and a Ketron SD2, there is no need for ASIO, and MME works great. That's the best sounding combination for a midi solution at the moment, although I know some people want to buy 12 rack mounted midi devices, use another 12 VST/Dxi instruments, and mix them on a 400 track device.

That power won't arrive until 2015. The new wall in you house will be a monitor and google will buy band in a box and make it available on a google phone, fold out tablet with the headset with the little chip for a monitor hooked to your glasses working in 3D with 12.9 4dimensional sound system. In my case I hope there's a filter to tweak that cuts out the sound of yesterday's cabbage rolls.

People still don't seem to get it or understand:
ASIO IS OF NO USE IN BIAB UNLESS YOU'RE TRYING TO PLAY A SOFT SYNTH IN REAL TIME
