No disrespect intended. Reformat the computer, find the ORIGINAL driver disk, and use that to install from. I don't trust Creative as far as I can throw their rented headquarters building.

The problem is that they have really screwed themselves on their drivers, even their updates. "Maybe if we screw the drivers for the updates, the customer will get upset and buy a new X-Fi card instead....which still won't work!"

If you can afford to, get an M-Audio 2496, and a free copy of Audacity, which will work nicely as a recorder. It won't be as fancy as the old, stable stuff from Creative, but it'll get the job done.
