How do I take a series of rest-measure (e.g., no melody) and have them display as one measure with the number above? For example, I may have 8 or 16 measures with no notes and want them to only take up the space of one measure, with an "8" or "16" above. This is for a fake sheet that indicates a solo section in the middle of a one-chord song. I can see how this may not be useful in a song with a progression, but there are a lot of songs from the East that ride over a drone and songs from the West that are simply a one-chord funk jam that would benefit from this. For now, I have to notate only one measure and hand-write the "8" after printing. Thanks for any help.

I presume this is what you are talking about:  BIAB's notation does not support multiple measure rests. You should probably go to the wish list.

I suspect that you will need specialized music notation software for this. PGMusic sell Finale PrintMusic for US$79 which would probably do the job. While BIAB has some music notation capabilities, it doesn't pretend to be specialized music notation software (just as specialized music notation software doesn't pretend to be auto-accompaniment software). BIAB's main aim is to provide auto-accompaniments.

I hope you are not having to play that part. I have one part this session on my baritone horn where I have 70 bars of rest. I have the patience to count up to about 20 and I'd rather go for a beer. At least it's cut time so it the same counting in half the time. I tried to get them to do that part in circus march time but failed. LOL.

I remember playing a piece in high school band which was in "something"/eight, where "something" changed about every 3 or 4 measures (3/8, 7/8, 11/8, 9/8, 6/8, 5/8, etc). The song moved pretty quickly, with no recognizeable, discernable melody, so we had to count it out. The trumpet part had about 120-something bars of rest, then we play 3 eighth notes, and were done until the last note of the song. We really hated that piece.
