These are the first results of an independent study I have been doing on the fusion of Appalachian (Holiness, Pentecostal, and Apostolic) with African-American (what-they-called-then) Spirituals. Dates are 1860 to 1910, which is about the dawn of what's now called gospel, black and country, having come out of urban Chicago & Atlanta, (Thomas Dorsey,) and the mid and deep south, esp Nashville. Non commercial. Some will recognize this as the roots of rock n' roll, a genre which some purists believe simply fell into the wrong hands. smile (But as we know is still going strong.)
