Here's a link to last nights show which features our own Eddie 1261. PLEASE send me some MP3s for inclusion. It's lovely being able to give members on here publicity. Now I DON'T want to feature the same artists again so please only those who haven't sent me material yet. Have a listen and you'll get an idea of the music I play.

There was a bit of a mixup. That was not me. "Look Of Love" is obviously not my song. I sent him 5 originals.

To be honest I don't play anywhere near as well as whoever that was. LOL!

This is kind of bad for 2 people. Me, who sent in songs I wrote, and whoever that great piano player is that people now think is me.

Hey man. That was really fine, expressive, accurate playing!! I'm a guy who is a multi-keyboard guy and NOT a true piano player, and I was impressed. When you want string parts, organ on one hand and horns on the other.... I think of myself as a supporting keyboard player. But to sit at a piano in a room full of people and serenading them, nope. Not the guy. I did it once for a guy who owned a few restaurants where my band played. I was eating dinner at one of them with my girlfriend de jour and his piano player was in a car accident on his way to play the 5-7 happy hour thing. He asked if I could give him an hour. I told him I'd give it a shot. So I finished dinner and sat down at his piano. I did a 70 minute set, about 40 of which was comedy. This place was a lot of lawyers who came down and got trashed after work. He set out a big brandy snifter and started the tips with 3 10s and 4 5s. I started with Sunny Side Of The Street, which I COULD play well enough to sing along with it. Then I started doing schtick and they ate it up. One extremely drunk woman came up asking for Moonlight in Vermont. I said "Hmmm. I don't know if I know that one." as I pushed the tip jar closer to her. I asked her "You know who wrote that?" to which she said "no". (Nobody does. It was some guy from Ohio who may have never written another song.) I pushed the jar a little closer to her and she dropped a 20 in it and I broke out into "Pennies in a stream. Fallen leaves - a sycamore..." I did 2 verses and stopped. But I had her 20!!! LOL!!! At one point I spotted a family with an adorable little girl about 6 and I invited dad to bring her up. He sat her on the piano and I told her that she would be my inspiration for the next song. I did some intro I made up on the spot and went into Misty. And as I sang "Look at me..." I looked at her and growled "Hey! I said look at me!" and everybody laughed and I went through the song. For that 70 minutes of more humor than music, I made over 200 bucks in tips, the guy paid me 100 and bought my dinner. Which in that place was about $80-85 for 2 of us. Then I dropped her off at home and went to the guy's other place where my band was playing that night. I had a good time doing that, but that calls for a MUCH better player than I was even then when I played every day. Like you could do that kind of thing and clean up in tips. All I have in me now is songwriter night playing my 3 songs with backing tracks. LOL!!

Ha ha, Eddie. Great stories and reflections. Nostalgia is a pretty wonderful thing. Never let that go.
BTW, you'll possibly realize that my avatar might not be that recent. I've been part of the team that performed 5, 6, sometimes 7 nights a week, year in - year out. It doesn't work that way anymore. Regrets about what it was like then? Absolutely none. Keep making music, that's what counts.

Yeah, there comes a point where we all have a "then", doesn't there? My Motown band from the early 90s was THE band to book and when the weather got nice enough to play outside we played doubles every Friday, Saturday and Sunday until the weather got bad again, so mid-May through about the 3rd week of October. Weddings were booking us a year in advance. And we got a lot of "rich people" weddings. New Year's Eve we booked in January.

I remember one of those "rich people" weddings. It was in June of 1992, at the height of our popularity. We played our ever-lovin' hearts out for them. A soft set of light jazz-ish songs during dinner, then 2 sets of "right cross to the face" power Motown after. After the reception they they invited us to the after party at a meeting room at the hotel where the people were staying So we packed the gear into the truck and headed over to that hotel. When we walked in, in our black satin band jackets, of course, they CHEERED for us! We made something like $3500 for that wedding ($700 per man!) and you know, that cheer kind of meant more to me. The idea that they though enough about us as people to invite us....

I also loved playing a weddings. Our longest was for 8 hours. Talk about sore fingers!
Plus the money was a lot better playing weddings over playing bars.

I get most of my exercise these days from shaking my head in disbelief.
