The Yellow Message Box pops up by itself sometimes . . .

And BiaB Ver. 2010 never gives up "front screen real estate" anymore -
I can't switch to another application by clicking on it or by using the old Windows Alt-Tab either.
Band in a Box always wants to stay on top.
The only way I have found to switch away from BiaB is to reduce the window.
It is a huge pain.

I have never had this occur. Have you tried "Return to Factory Settings"? When you do this, your present configuration is saved so that you can easily undo the changes if it doesn't work.

After using "Return to Factory Settings", I always reboot my computer just to make sure.

Sounds like you have turned on DAW Plugin mode, where the program will be always-on-top.
Reboot the program, that will clear it.
Failing that, try return-to-factory, and if it persists, please describe a way to duplicate it.

Ah, yes, Peter, I'd say it's probably always when DAW Plugin is turned on.
Is that necessary?
Why can't BiaB just behave (in DAW mode) like any other application?

And the blank yellow message box appearing . . . ?

You should just stop using that "mode". It doesn't do anything you (or I) want done.

You can now drag BiaB down to any convenient size , and it will stay at that size and location

And the drag-and-drop always works now, even without being in "DAW mode'.

So the Mode doesn't actually gain you anything but a jumpy, arbitrarily changing window size, and an always-on-top feature that you obviously dislike.

I've never turned DAW mode on in BIAB 2010. Never saw a need for it. Still not sure why there is a problem for FirstBassman, though. If you have a function within an application, it ought to not cause any problems, IMHO.

Cheers,
Mike

That's great to know, guys, thanks!

I just tested it and, indeed, Drag n' Drop works without turning the DAW Plug-in on.

I also just re-read the manual and no where do I see where it documents that.

On both Page 9 (Quick Start) and starting on page 20 (Plug-In Mode) of the Version 2010 manual it says:

"Press the Plugin button on the main toolbar and choose the menu item Start DAW Plug-in mode, or go to the Windows menu and choose Plug-in Mode for DAW.

...

You can now easily drag tracks from BB to your DAW..."

Where does it say that Dragging works without turning the Plug-in on?

Nowhere. Discovered by serendipity.

It can, if you de-select Prefs- DAW Options - Always on top.

Slightly different problem but related: BIAB 2010 will, after a short while of use, refuse to respond to the minimize and close buttons. If I press the (Windows) Show Desktop icon, however, it will minimize. I frequently have to use the Task Manager to shut down the application.

Peter, see above. This has been OBE'ed.

DAW-PlugIn button, it turns out, is not required for Drag n' Drop.

There is, however, still the issue of the mysterious floating empty yellow text box.

The yellow box is a bonus feature. Think Big Yellow Taxi. I saw a pink box one night, then a floating elephant, I think it was morphine and beer induced. Or not. Probably not. I'm sure it was a bug....

I've never seen or heard anyone but military (or former military) folks use "OBE." Especially as a verb!

No one is rushing to explain that, I see.

Just a wild guess, but I expect that's because they have never suffered from it. It's something bizarre. Probably better go to Tech Support about it, rather than hope they see it here in the forum. If possible, try to be ready to explain to them how you induce it.

I (vaguely) think I may have seen it once or twice as a freak event associated with a rare crash or malfunction. Never any reproducible occurrence.

Never been in the military.
Federal government yes, military, no.

"OBE" being short for Overtaken By Events can correctly only be used as a verb since it is a Verb Phrase.

In the generative grammar framework, the verb phrase is a phrase headed by a verb. A verb phrase may be constructed from a single verb; often, however, the verb phrase will consist of various combinations of the main verb and any auxiliary verbs, plus optional specifiers, complements, and adjuncts.

Generally I'd agree but as stated previously (in other threads) other than how to setup the soft synth kind of question, I've never gotten a satisfactory answer from PG Tech Support.

Believe it or not, the support from this forum is much better.

On the other hand, you're not getting any support from the group on this. We ain't got the faintest.

I agree it was the place to start, though. And maybe somebody will still come along to say, "Oh, I had that, but I was able to fix it using two hammers."

Re OBE's being a verbal phrase: Yes, I see what you mean.

It's funny, but I have used the abbreviation OBE so often I no longer think of it as verbal phrase based on the verb overcome. I think of it more as an adjective (as in predicate adjective), as in Bob is dull, Your project is un-executable, or Your plan is OBE.

In Canada OBE is a huge thing..
There have bees a total of 1,671 OBE's issued to Canadians; 599 civil and 1,072 military

Order of the British Empire, 3 divisions, a very important medal from 1917 to present.

We Colonists still have Daughters of the Empire, and we gave a lot of property to Loyalists in the late 1700's who escaped tarring and feathering. The surviving families still use UEL after their names for United Empire Loyalists.
