The entry cost for a new high performance mac can just about stop the heart.
My 2013 Macbook Pro 15 quad core i7 16gb RAM 1Tb ssd was about $4k if I remember correctly when I bought it new in 2013.

But I've had it for almost 8 years and it can still run BIAB win in Parallels and Logic without any problems.
I expect it to go for at least a couple more years before its ready for a new life.
I run 2 large high resolution monitors with it. I rarely take it out of the house anymore.
To me 10 years on a great performing low headache machine is money well spent.

Personally, I'm going to wait for the dust to settle a little on the new processors. Then I'll either purchase a new mac mini (i own plenty of monitors) or a macbook pro, pretty much maxed out.

I'm very satisfied buying Apple Products brand new. I feel fortunate I can do so. That being said, I see no problem buying used gear as long as it doesn't have spinning disk drives. I think we're done with those.
If only PG Music would stop sending me one every year.
