I play both Chromatic and ditonic. Don't buy Johnson, they are junk. Buy a Hohner Special 20 or a Blues Master. You'll spend about 25 bucks for a ditonic, and about 100 + for a chromatic. What ever you decide to do, go for it...!

If that's the sound you want, you should be able to play that song on any diatonic harmonica. It was all in one key.

The thing I don't like about Lee Oskars is the big "LEE OSKAR" in white on it. Sometimes people think MY name is Lee Oskar when they see me play one. I blotted it out pretty good with a black sharpie.
Now I only buy Special 20's cause of that.

One little comment about the popular 10 key diatonic and key. The key of the diatonic scale of the harmonica is indeed stamped on the the harp. However if you are playing "blues", the common technique, called "cross harp" compels you to play a harp tuned for a perfect forth above the key in which you are playing. So if you are playing the blues in C, use an "F" harp. With this method the natural notes of the blues scale are more abundant and the bendable notes are the right notes to bend for the blues. Good luck.

Thanks for starting this thread. I had not thought about playing a harmonica even though I used to as a kid. At a retirement home gig we played this week, an old guy had a whole selction of Lee Oskars and he could really play them well. He sat in with us with no problemo. He recommeded the Oskars so I just ordered a major diatonic in C from Amazon. Although the guy who played with us had lot's of keys, he said that I could get buy with a C and G. Since I just will be using it for a "toy" to try and play blues, I thought the C was the way to go. Looks like fun to me.

Update: Got the instrument today. Very good quality and tone. It's made in Japan by Tombo for Oskar.

Shastastan thats neat mate. what got me thinking bout harmonica mate is.. ive been trying to get away for ages from just geetar songs n add other instrumental flavors on an el cheapo budget being retired now. ive mucked around with samples, but find em a pain frankly. n often ya gotta tune em etc. trolling thru sample discs is not my idea of fun. tho i must say computermusic.co.uk has lots of neat freebies in their monthly mag as well as plug ins. if you end up putting music examples of your harmonica somewhere, i wouldnt mind haveing a listen if thats ok. i agree its a neat sound for cheap.
