It's not a placeholder. You can choose to make each track wider, to fill the space.
Click on the settings gear icon in the upper right corner of the mixer (next to Patches tab), and set the Maximum Panel Height to something like 114. While you are there, look at the other checkboxes and settings.
In beta testing, one person suggested we should be able to customize the space you identified and perhaps put a picture of our own there. While that didn't happen, BIAB 2021 gave people more tracks that they had asked for, and made the mixer much more flexible. Adjust it to what you like.

On the videos I've seen, that space has also been utilised for floating windows such as the Lead Sheet Window, etc. (Which is similar to what you've done.)
JJJ, I deleted (at least tried) to delete meatball post as soon as it was addressed. This time... Matt gave a fix. I do think it would look better if it snapped to the edge by itself as a default setting. Meaning, dynamic sizing with built in limit, unless you tinker with custom setting.

This is how it works, unless I misunderstand what you are saying. If you visit the Settings tab on the Mixer, there is the Maximum Panel Height setting. If this setting is high enough, then you would never see the blank space. Note that you don't have to use the Settings tab - you can just hold CTRL and mouse-wheel upwards while holding the mouse over the Mixer and it will increase the panel height.
Blake, I am ok of customizing this. Matt's suggestion did it.
I am talking about a default setting for most users. As of now, by default, mixer is docked. Once you "undock" it and stretch it... you would get that black empty space (default panel height 50). And if a default Panel Height size is set to 140, no matter how you stretch it, it would do it dynamically, without black window.
All I am saying, I think 140 panel height should be a default and others "optional".
