But every time I open a new project, the default is always "Count-In" and since I rarely, if ever use that, I would like to have the default set as "No Count-In".
Jim, what version of BiaB are you using (what year)? Things have changed for the 2021 version, where this is now settable on a song-by-song basis.
BIAB & RB2026 Win.(Audiophile), Windows 10 Pro & Windows 11, Cakewalk Bandlab, Izotope Prod.Bundle, Roland RD-1000, Synthogy Ivory, Session Keys Grand S & Electric R, Kontakt, Focusrite 18i20, KetronSD2, NS40M, Pioneer Active Monitors.
I know how to set it song by song (thanks for everyone who responded!)
And I know it's customizable by song.
My question is: the DEFAULT setting is for the "Count-In". How do I change the DEFAULT setting to "No Count-In"?
It's just a bit of an [*****]-ache to have to go back in each time to set it to "No Count-In" every time I start a new project. I do several projects a day so if I just have to go in each time to change it, then I will do that. Just hoping that there was an easy way to have it how it was before.
The rendered finished track STILL has 4-6 seconds of silence at the beginning of it.
So the count in is still there in the finished track. You just don't hear it.
Is there a setting that I need to adjust to remove that silence so the end result is that the finished track plays immediately with no silence or count-in?
Just tried it on about 10 different songs and the only time I had a wait period was when the song 1st generated. Every time I click play after that, the song starts for me immediately. If I generate a song, then freeze it, the playback starts immediately even if I click the regenerate button again.
I see no problem at my end when I tested it.

OK. I tried it all 4 ways. Each way has 2 different settings you can set. One is the Options - Preferences - Count-In & Metronome Options AND Audio-Export Song As Audio File.
1st rendering settings: Count In Option (Default Count In with all boxes checked) and Render to Audio File (Include 2 bar lead-in and include drum lean-in checked)
The WAV file had a 4.351 second delay before the song started with the audible count-in as it should. This was the standard setting which you obviously do not want. Call this the control test.
2nd rendering settings: Count In Option (Default Count In with all boxes un-checked and Render to Audio File (Include 2 bar lead-in and Include drum lean-in)
The WAV file had a 4.351 second delay before the song started with no audible count-in. Still wound up with a 4.353 second silent period before the song started. Again, not what you are looking for.
3rd rendering settings: Count In Option (Default Count In with all boxes un-checked and Render to Audio File (Un-check Include 2 bar lead-in and uncheck Include drum lean-in)
The WAV file had a 4.351 second delay before the song started with no audible count-in. Still wound up with a 4.353 second silent period before the song started. Again, not what you are looking for.
4th rendering settings: Count In Option (Default Count In with all boxes checked and Render to Audio File (Un-check Include 2 bar lead-in and uncheck Include drum lean-in)
The WAV file had a 0.000 second delay before the song started with no audible count-in. This is what you are looking for.
You need to use the 4th rendering settings for it to work correctly when you render to a WAV file.
Set your count-in option to normal in the preferences but make sure when you render to audio file you un-check include drum lead in and un-check include 2 bar lead-in
If this works for you, you can mark the topic as Resolved.

As a follow up on my solution, the WAV file rendered was all of the tracks in a single WAV file. I also rendered the SGU file as each track as an individual file using rendering settings #4 and each track started immediately with no 4 second silent period. Same results in case you wanted separate tracks.

THANKS! Let me try it and see if it works...I really appreciate all the thought and knowledge everyone has shared with this.
I will definitely provide an update.
--------------------
UPDATE - okay - that way works. Not how I've exported .wav files. I've always used the .WAV button/tab on the main menu. But if I start exporting using this method, that does it.
TO EVERYONE - thank you for all your help and support!
Rendering is a different issue from getting the count-in stopped. You haven't said how your render the file. While there are a few ways in BIAB, only one of those ways (that I'm aware of, at least), allows rendering settings to be applied.
Once these setting are applied, then the other BIAB render options should give the same renderings.
Try this...
1. Open "Audio | Export Song as Audio File" (#1, #2 on image below)
2. Set the output audio format (#3)
3. I recommend using 16 bit and 44.1 kHz as sound output because Realtracks have these audio attributes. (#4)
This means that you won't run the risk of introducing audio artifacts by up-scaling/dithering to 24 bits (or higher) and higher than 44.1 kHz sampling frequency). I encourage you to play around with these settings and see what works for you. (I always use 16/44.1)
4. Set mix to "Normalize" (#5)
5. Deactivate the settings shown by #6. (I imagine that "2-bar lead-in" is active and that this is what's causing the silence.)
6. Activate "Render using the highest quality". (#7)
7. Click on "Render" (#8).
One your have made the changes in this window and then used the "Render" button (#8), the settings will be put in place. Next time, you can use any of BIAB's rendering options and these settings should be applied.
If ever you want to change these settings, it's necessary to use "Audio | Export song as Audio File" and then "Render" to set them.
Thanks to everyone for your suggestions. I have the same issue and it is not completely solved for me. It doesn't matter what I select in the "Render to Audio File" dialog. I unchecked "Include 2 bar lead-in" and also "Include drums lead-in" but I always get 2 measures silence at the beginning after exporting the audio file. The only possibility to avoid this silence is to go to Preferences => Count-in/Met. and activate "Allow Lead-In Bars (all songs)". Only with this setting in combination with unchecked "Include 2 bar lead-in" and "Include drums lead-in" in the export window, I can get rid of the silence at the beginning of the song. But that's exactly the thing: I don't want to activate "Allow Lead-In Bars (all songs)" in the preferences, because I want the song playback inside BiaB to start immediately after pressing play.
Maybe this is a new issue in BiaB 2021, because in the 2020 version I didn't have silence in exported files using the same settings.
1. ...and the audio count-in is set so that its heard when the song playback starts, then the song renders without the count-in.
If however...
2. ...the count-in is disabled so that it doesn't sound when a song is generated and played back in BIAB (as per the link below), then a 2-bar silence is inserted in the rendering.
