I have a peavey predator plus which i bought off ebay for £30. when they came out i tried one against a mexican strat and preferred the peavey. didn't buy it new, but when i saw one on ebay here in the uk i bought it. here's a link to one on ebay uk

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Peavey-Predator-Plus-electric-guitar-locking-tuners/284049981656?hash=item4222b2c0d8:g:vMIAAOSwPOhfjrNX

but they normally go much cheaper than that but probably someone has discoverd how good they are. in the USA you'll most likely pick one up cheaply. you want the one with the three a side headstock as peavey called lots of their guitars predators.

and here's a link to one in action

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g1SnZYfKVQg

build quality excellent hardware good and lots of usable sounds from the ssh pickup set up. nice strat out of phase sounds position 2 and 4 and the humbucker is coil tapped when used with the middle pick up. and the tuners are locking which makes restringing fast and easy, after a set up mine returns to tune well after trem use.

hope you get one cheap

I like Harley Benton guitars:

https://www.thomannmusic.com/harley_benton_guitars_and_basses.html

They are very inexpensive but with very good quality and workmanship.

I have this model:

https://www.thomannmusic.com/harley_benton_bigtone_vintage_orange.htm

And I'm looking to purchase a couple more HB guitars.

Not familiar with that particular model, but Kramer has been around for a while now, good company AFAIK.

Probably a good guitar, but I would say it depends on the type of music you play.

Looking at the specs for that particular guitar it looks like it's designed with the shred crowd in mind, very flat radius and only a bridge pickup.

Of course you can use any guitar for any type of music, but some are better suited than others for particular genres. In my case I'm mostly a blues, blues/rock player. I hardly ever use the bridge pickup, mostly the neck or middle (Strat).

I've heard nothing but good things from many people about the Harley Benton guitars Mario mentioned, I'll probably get one someday.

YMMV, IMHO, etc. wink

thanks for input/hb info. and merry xmas.

this is the kramer.
https://www.long-mcquade.com/162200/Guitars/Electric-Guitars/Kramer/Baretta-Special---Ruby-Red.htm
i like a flatter fretboard. its just for noodling rock ideas . nowt serious.
ive found like the jacksons, angled headstocks seem to stay in tune better.
hence kramer idea.
people have also said check out guitarfetish. but i dunno.

Not a guitar I would consider for myself, but I'm sure it's fine if that's what you are into. Price is certainly attractive!

Long and Mcquade, are you in Canada then?

I have two Kramer guitars that I have had for years, a NightRider and a Focus. Both guitars are excellent guitars.

I've always thought a used G&L guitar was very good value for the money.
For around $4-500 you can find a used telecaster worthy of $1500 out of the Fender shop.
Good neck, accurate intonation, nice sounding pickups.
A solid package.

I don't play one now. I've thinned my guitar herd to 4 and my only tele is made by John Suhr out of Ca.
The Suhr is one of the best tele's I've ever played.

I've played a ton of LTD and ESP guitars, never any issues. Worked for a shop that sold them, and I don't think I ever saw one come back (except for one where my friend broke a tuning peg on his).

I primarily play Jackson and Ibanez, and absolutely agree with the tilt-back headstock staying in tune. My sub $300 Japan-made Jackson can play circles around every Fender and Gibson I've ever owned and played.

As for the Kramer, I've never owned one but I very nearly bought a tiger-stripe one that played absolutely beautifully - probably in the top 5 guitars I've ever played!

thank you to all for your comments. very nice of you.
and merry xmas.

my goodness simon, i have jackson too. but its getting long in the tooth. like me lol. thats one reason i'm looking at kramers
and others, to back up my long in the tooth jackson.
love those angled headstocks.

i have a "G" gtr here too. drives me nuts.
i retired it.
its the headstock design i found out. have to use a spreader
apparently.
i'll prolly end up with the kramer. its just for noodling/ideas.

best.
muso. gtrs are a pita.

ps mario. nice pics.

These two are my main guitars - the blue Jackson is a made in Japan model with stock Seymour Duncan JB and '59 pickups (love the compound radius maple fingerboard) - only mod I made is a push-pull switch on the tone control to split the humbuckers to single coil.

The red Ibanez Axstar is a rare one - I've literally only seen one in my life! Headless, small and comfortable body, lightweight (great for those of us who have ruined our backs), excellent tuning stability, active pickups with an active treble boost, and a wicked fast ebony fingerboard.

Neither of these were particularly expensive, but both are what I'd consider "professional", more so than any "G" or many "F" guitars...

(And of course, I have a few more than 2 guitars...)

You don't consider Gibson's to be "professional" guitars? Joe Bonamassa would disagree with you on that point to mention one of many professional players that favour Gibson guitars.

I personally prefer Fenders (or Fender style), but then you don't like them either.

So, what attributes do you think are missing from Fender and Gibson guitars that is holding them back from being "professional" in your eyes?
