Here's an example, when you click the Eye you can set what is showing in one go, not eye click, check track, eye click, check track, eye click, check track,.......
Then in the setting when you click Custom it will let you set the Default.
Is this a current option? I am not seeing it in my BIAB?
Is this any different than when others of us don't like changes forced on us that affect our workflow? When we do that we are called out for standing in the way of progress? Maybe there is a little bit of "old guard" in all of us.
Well, yes, it is quite different!
NOT Old Guard = "don't change the workflow in a non-standard program (BIAB) to an arbitrary new non-standard way"
Old Guard = "don't add panning" (even though it is standard in the base product and every other track-based product ever invented!)

Having said that I stand by my view that options are a good thing, and would support a check box option.
Thanks! I agree retaining legacy config is an important step, just like they retained the old GUI and some of us still use it!

However I have to point out that having to click the "eye" to access a couple legacy tracks that are not even used to start with in a style doesn't seem like a real big deal.
You could use this argument to oppose any improvement.

LOL sorry for my frivolity! I assure you I am just joshing a bit here.
Ahhh, 'tis Christmas Eve. Enjoy your frivolity. But I admit I was hoping you knew something when you suggested I could turn the legacy mixer back on.
Is this a current option? I am not seeing it in my BIAB?
I have requested this as I always say OPTIONS are the best way to keep old n new happy. Look at ctrl+T It will all come together, at least until they move over to the Mac that the Mac users are hanging out for.
But as more and more people want BiaB to be more like a DAW name me one DAW other than RealBand that shows tracks that are not used. I can't think of any and I have used a number of them. I am happy with the way it is but I will go for an option so others can have BiaB their way also.
Well, the mere fact that you cite Realband as an exception should lend credence to NOT hiding tracks in BIAB!
As you correctly imply, BIAB is NOT a DAW nor will/should it ever be! And this change does not make it more like a DAW IMHO.
- no DAW I have ever used has only 7 (full-featured) tracks - no DAW I have ever used has arbitrary default track names - no DAW I have ever used prohibits me from change track order
And finally, the new "feature" is not even working consistently! Try applying a style like _NORFOLK.STY. The new mixer will,
- hide the Bass track - hide the Strings track - hide the Soloist track - display the Drums track which is NOT used in this style - display the Melody track which is NOT used in this style
This new "feature" is unwelcome to me and inconsistently working (broken) to everyone!
This is a simple fix with the Options. It could also have a Right click Option to Add Track from the list.
I like where you are going with this but please encourage them to add a simple "sticky" feature so it will retain my settings regardless of style loaded, song loaded, new startup of BIAB, etc.
But don't forget, the gray area you call empty can be put to great use by other windows.
Matt, how do I put something there? What can I put there?
Well, at the moment, I have the Editable Notation window and the MIDI Chord Detection window. You can just drag a window there and resize it to fit.
Hmmm, I am trying to do this but I see no docking feature in the mixer that allows these windows to be integrated there.
Please tell me you are not just dragging these always-on-top windows to the gray area and considering that docked? Just kidding, there must be something I am missing here.

I may be going out on a limb here, but everything I have seen tells me that area is simply screen real-estate which you can use to move windows for temporary usage. No permanent docking at this time.
OMG, Matt you are the eternal optimist! You notice a piece of empty real estate on the screen (that is not even there in the legacy GUI mode) and you find a way to use it as a new feature! I dunno whether to applaud you or just scream into my pillow! But seriously, if I ever release a software product I want you on my marketing team!

Yeah, I spent about 15 minutes trying to dock various windows but couldn't get any to stick. When I would exit BIAB they would, of course, disappear and, again of course, they did not load with my saved songs. Arg. Just...arg!
I think JF suggested being able to put some wallpaper in there as there's so much billboard space.
If I were PGMUSIC, I would rent all that open space up for paid advertisements. That way you would think you were watching Youtube instead. Now that would go over with the customer base for sure.
