The only guy I heard use the tunning pegs like that was Adrian Legg - though I'm not sure, but I think Adiran Legg didn't have the 'auto' tuners when he changed strings. OP Joe V Expert J Joined: Feb 2006 Posts: 1,129 NYC	So - that style of playing - has been around for quite some time. I was first introduced and blown away by it through Michael Hedges. In my mind, he was the pioneer and many of his compositions are the best in their class. I'm not sure who was either doing, or popularizing, that style of playing before him. You might say Stanley Jordan was one of the first - but he did it on an electric guitar, playing it more like a piano. Moving the technique over to the Acoustic guitar, altering the tunings, adding lots of harmonics and 'slam' harmonics introduced a whole new sound. One of my favorite tunes from Hedges was Arial Boundaries, and a few others on that album by the same name. One things is for sure - very few players can do more than one of such idiosyncratic styles. The guitar really is like many different instruments in one - when you consider how different it can sound when played with virtuosity in a "niche" style. Anybody else out there a Hedges fan, or a fan of other guitar players using that style ? Also - does anybody out there play any of these types of compositions on their instrument ? I'd love to hear how you got into that, and what is was like to get that style under your fingers even for one composition.

eddie1261 Unregistered E	Isn't there some famous/well know banjo song that uses the quick detuning similar to this? I saw Livingston Taylor do it but I can't remember anything more about it. If you go back further into this guy's youtube channel you will hear some great stuff. There is one called saomething like "The hardest solo ever" that was a great piece of funk. Thumbing, slapping, tapping, hammer-ons and pull offs... all of it. If you don't know about Victor Wooten, check him out too. Wooten is from another planet completely.

TBH....and not to diminish his skill set, that style of guitar playing works for about one song in a row. Just not appealing to me for any extended listening period. Will Ackerman was on the same label and I much preferred his music/playing style. I've listened to his first couple albums countless times and they never got weary to my ears.
