So - that style of playing - has been around for quite some time. I was first introduced and blown away by it through Michael Hedges. In my mind, he was the pioneer and many of his compositions are the best in their class. I'm not sure who was either doing, or popularizing, that style of playing before him. You might say Stanley Jordan was one of the first - but he did it on an electric guitar, playing it more like a piano. Moving the technique over to the Acoustic guitar, altering the tunings, adding lots of harmonics and 'slam' harmonics introduced a whole new sound.

One of my favorite tunes from Hedges was Arial Boundaries, and a few others on that album by the same name.

One things is for sure - very few players can do more than one of such idiosyncratic styles. The guitar really is like many different instruments in one - when you consider how different it can sound when played with virtuosity in a "niche" style.

Anybody else out there a Hedges fan, or a fan of other guitar players using that style ? Also - does anybody out there play any of these types of compositions on their instrument ? I'd love to hear how you got into that, and what is was like to get that style under your fingers even for one composition.
