I'm have BIAB/RealBand 2019 though most of my work is done in RealBand. I am trying to make some space on my c drive. I already have the RealTracks and RealDrums folders on my d drive but was wondering if its possible to delete (or move) the folders Soloists (12.6GB) and Songs and Lessons (2.04GB) from the bb folder on c drive. If I purchase BIAB2021, the situation might be even more acute. Currently, my C drive is approximately 69GB Used Space and 51GB Free Space. Thank in advance, Mike

I have a full fledged BiaB installation here on a 400 GB SD card - works like a charm. SD cards may have TB capacities these days.

Thanks for this Pipeline. I'll have to read up on it a bit more as I'm not quite sure how to apply this software (i.e. step by step). Cheers, Mike

It’s a program that makes easier something that’s available from Windows itself.
BIAB 2026 Win Audiophile. Software: Fender Studio One 8, Swam horns, Acoustica-7, Notion 6, Song Master Pro, Win 11 Home. Hardware: Intel i9, 32 Gb; Presonus Quantom HD8 & Faderport 8, Royer 121, Adam Sub8 & Neumann 120 monitors.

Officially, the ONLY folders that can be moved from the BB folder are the Realtracks folder and the Drums folder, and they must be moved in their entirety and must still be named Realtracks and Drums respectively.
Unofficially, Pipeline's suggestion of creating symbolic links should work in theory. However, at that point we would recommend just moving the entire BB folder to your D drive (or reinstalling to the D drive), as any speed improvement from having the BB app on an SSD would be unnoticeable in that case.

Did Mike say his C drive was a SSD?
He did say that he has roughly 40% free space on drive C, which is not yet any problem. Once you get under 15% on a standard hard drive, it slows down considerably. A SSD requires 20% free space.
My experience is that BIAB does load faster on a SSD and feels ‘snappier’ in use. The main component for speed in BIAB is the CPU for regenerating, but I would call the storage drive the second most important because of loading large RealTrack files. This assumes sufficient decent RAM, and Mike has 16GB.

Thanks Simon and Matt. My c drive (120GB) is a solid state drive and my d drive is HDD. My d drive (1TB) is about half full. 1. Do you think I would notice a difference in speed/response if I installed the entire program on my d drive (I have Intel i7)? 2. If I did install BIAB 2019 (or BIAB 2021) from the PG Music portable hard to my d drive, should I uninstall the program from my c drive first? 3. Would I need to reinstall my RealTrack and RealDrums, which are already on my d drive? Thanks again, Mike

Since your C drive isn’t full and it’s a SSD, I would leave things as they are. The largest files of BIAB by far are already on drive D.
Run one of those free-space visual indicators like Treesize and find some space on C from somewhere else. There’s always stuff to delete.

A full fledged BB2021 UltraPAK+ installation requires some 24 GB for the bb installation folder and some 118 GB for RealTracks and RealDrums. If drive C runs scarce on space, it should be no problem at all to move the bb installation folder with its 24 GB to a HDD drive on D, freeing up ca. 24 GB on C - as Simon already suggested.

Thanks Martin. It seems BIAB2021 takes up more space than BIAB2019 (my BB folder says 17.5GB and the RealBand folder is 1GB). I'll probably leave everything where it is now, unless space gets too tight in the future. Thanks for your input, Mike

It all really depends on how patient you are too. I have an UltraPAK on an external USB 2.0 drive (NOT the USB 3 drives we ship out, but the old ones) and speed doesn't bother me. Bootup of BIAB is around 10 seconds - sure, that would be faster if I stuck it on my internal SSD, but I'm not gonna lose sleep over it.
If you're using BIAB professionally and need the absolute highest speed, then a bigger internal SSD would do it - they're not hugely expensive these days.

I agree with Simon this time. All I can tell you is I would not want to go back from a SSD. It’s not just loading the program (I get four seconds on a restart, 11 on first load of BIAB); it’s a general feel of everything responding a bit quicker.
