I have one song which is 46 bars long, with 20 repeats. The style is _JORGBAS.sty. On first loading the song, it takes roughly 33 seconds to generate and begin playback. If I then stop the playback, and restart using the play button, the lag is more like 29 seconds. Another song, a two chord vamp, 40 bars long, 20 choruses behaves the same way though the delay is closer to 40 seconds regardless of generation. This seems like an unusually long time, especially for a song which has already been generated, and was not an issue in BIAB2020. Does anyone else have issues like this?

Could you confirm that you are definitely restarting the song with the 'Play' button and not the 'Generate and Play' button?
What happens if you freeze the tracks? Does that reduce the time taken?
What Build number are you running? 814 is the latest.

Here is the same style, 36 bars, 20 repeats. ~13 secs to start, then ~11 sec to restart. On my i7 machine I am only surprised that the restart took ~11 secs. I assumed the restart would be immediate. If I then freeze all tracks and hit play again, another ~11 secs to hear it. I would have expected this to also be immediate. Have to look into this. Build 814. If we get a third to confirm the time delay to play a frozen set of tracks or simply to replay tracks then this is either new behavior in 2021 or a bug. I actually think we may have seen prior reports of this??

I am absolutely using the 'Play' button and not the 'Generate and Play' button. Freezing the tracks has no effect on the amount of time taken. I am running build 814.

I've also created a 32 bar song with 20 repeats. I'm not sure, but maybe the song is still generating in the background if you: 1: Generate and Play, then 2: Press Stop before the background generation has finished, then 3: Press Play.
I tried Song Settings > 'This song has playback problems disable fast generation', and generated and it then took a very long time to generate the song (2+ minutes). After that, pressing play took several seconds, but much less time.
So it may not have completed generating the song, and pressing Play still requires the song to regenerate.
20 choruses = around 23 minutes of music.

I repeated with an entirely new file with the same results. 42 minute play time (30 repeats of 32 BARS) and it took as long the second time to start to play as it did the first time, ~52 sec).
Have to admit I likely have never done 30 repeats for a 42 min song. So I changed to 6x. ~4 secs to play first time, then ~3 secs to play second time. I still think this is either new behavior or a bug. The second time should be and always was instantaneous otherwise I could have never played my live gigs waiting for the backing to start.

I tried the same, with no change in results. This makes the program inconvenient as a practice tool, and unusable as a performance tool.

In my mind the design requirement is for an immediate RePlay once the song has been generated the first time or once the tracks have been frozen. This is necessary for those of play live. I am seeing a delay (dependent on the length of the song), but a delay none the less in this re-play on every attempt. Another thread is reporting this issue for Build 814. Based on this I have alerted the developers to this issue. https://www.pgmusic.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=635567&gonew=1#UNREAD

So it may not have completed generating the song, and pressing Play still requires the song to regenerate. Ya, so I waited and waited to be sure this was done before I moved on. I have never seen this behavior before Build 814.

To the O/P: This has definitely been confirmed as incorrect behavior and has been reported directly to the developers.

Great news, thanks. As a (retired) software developer, I feel the pain of being on both sides of this sort of thing.

Great news, thanks. As a (retired) software developer, I feel the pain of being on both sides of this sort of thing. Thanks, yes, I totally understand both sides of the equation. I went back and tested against several earlier versions to prove that the problem previously did not exist. So hopefully they will be able to more easily find out exactly what 'broke' it. Every so often, something that was fixed before becomes broken again. I think this is one of those types of issues.
