BIAB has a lot of quality and so far I am a big fan of this product.
But today I'm starting to find the product difficult to use, especially in terms of assigning styles and instruments. The selection dialogs are not very intuitive and there are too many specific cases. For me it becomes urgent to simplify and converge the different use cases (midi track, real track ...) => a unique dialogue whatever the type of track ...

i think many of us have grown up with BIAB since the early days of floppy discs. in those days it was midi only and quite simple. it has added lots of refinements and extras over the years and has grown more complex. those of us that watched it grow are used to it but its a steep learning curve for a newcomer.

can you describe exactly what you are having difficulty with? we can probably help.

and don't forget the huge range of videos on the support page.

Riccoboni: Like any other software program, the more you use it, the better you get at using it. I have used BIAB since the days of floppy disks and each year when something new comes out with the program, I send myself back to school to learn the new features. Hang in there. It gets easier the more you use it. There are a lot of smart people here who can help just about anyone out with a problem if needed.

Thanks for yopurs answers.

I answer a little late, taking an example to illustrate how ergonomics are not always very intuitive.

Lately I'm trying to assign midi drums to a drum track that had real drums.

I tried directly to assign a midi drum to the drum track (standard drum kit), but the instrument change was not made, without any error or warning message.

I tried different settings or actions, like "return track to style instrument". Without success.

I finally found the action "Force Drums track to midi drums" and it fell into place.

But admit that this is not very intuitive ...

For me, actions like "Revert track to style Instrument", "Force drum track to midi drums", should not appear in the user interface and should be implied when selecting another type of instrument.

Instead, if you don't do it explicitly, the instrument change doesn't work without knowing why.
And we fumble around for a while before we find the right option.

From my point of view (that of a user who wants an intuitive approach, without having to guess the logic of the developers), it is not necessary to explicitly ask that we will change the instrument. It should just be enough to change instruments!

So ergonomics is not BIAB's strong point (but there are others!)

One of the most helpful things new users can do is report their observations, as you have done. Thank you. We who have used BIAB for decades do not see things the same way you do.

You are not the only one who has posted about having trouble with this. I suggest you make posts, one topic per post, in the BIAB Wishlist Forum. This is the place where the developers will see the suggestions.
