Wow Pat did I ever enjoy that one! I haven't heard any of your work before and that was a great introduction! I loved the guitar work and tone...absolutely fabulous! Same goes for your vocals! Great "live" sound you have crafted to go along with a super tune! Some of the best blues I've heard here! T

Pat, I remember your funny animation posts from years back; this is a head turning welcome surprise! Quality and authenticity throughout- hard to believe this is a first self penned blues, but your influences have been absorbed and this is simply great driving almost-live music. Keep `em coming!

Hi Pat,
what a great Blues shuffle - everything extremely good about it. Enjoyed it a lot.
Take care,
Stefan Thank you Stefan! I appreciate you taking time to listen, and even more so taking time to comment. I'm guessing that somebody who goes by the name CROSSROADS is a blues guitarist, but I haven't yet found one of your songs in the forum. Can you direct me to one? Oh wait.. I see that's in your signature! I'm off to listen as soon as I finish replying to a few posts here on the forum today. update: just got back from your Youtube channel! Wow! You are one talented artist! Great music, productions skils and video editing, green screen... you have a whole boxfull of talents! I immediately subscribed to your channel! Hi Pat,
That was astonishingly good!
Some of the best blues I've ever heard on here. Rog, thanks so much for listening and for commenting in a way that leaves me feeling encouraged. You know from many past correspondences that I respect your many talents, so hearing a positive evaluation from you is a particular joy to me. Seriously, thanks. Fabulous vocals, delivered with energy and conviction. wow, thanks! Energy and conviction are requirements, not options, for live music. Nothing worse than trying to watch a shoe-gazer perform. Wonderful guitar work and a great blues tone from that guitar which I couldn't quite see fully in the video, but which is obviously something special. The guitar is sadly, just a low end mexican strat. Of all my guitars it is the least expensive, by a factor of about 10. I think I got it on Craigslist for $200 USD. But its a STRAT dammit, and you need a Strat to play the blues! No other guitar delivers that throaty tone! Such an exciting live sound and if I lived just that bit closer, I'd happily pay to come to one of your gigs. One of these days perhaps... I don't think anybody anywhere is playing out in public anymore due to covid restrictions... but I play on Streetjelly and Pal Talk, both of which are accessible from anywhere in the world. PalTalk has many music rooms. When I play there it is in a room called INTERNATIONAL LIVE MUSIC CAFE because it is run by a friend. Streaming sites are an interesting mix of pros and beginners, and in a sense they are a grass roots source of real people playing whatever they can. Very interesting. Sometimes terrible, sometimes awesome. You really HAVE to do some more of this.
Take care and stay safe old pal.
ROG.
Thanks for the encouragement Rog. I truly do appreciate it. After years of watching everybody else post their songs, my new years resolution is to write some original music in 2021. So there WILL be more. Whether or not any of it will be worth listening to remains to be seen I guess.

Well, we are both suckers for blues trio...they are right square in our wheelhouse!
Our immediate impression was that vocally your phrasing and timbre sound a LOT like a great old friend who has played and sung the blues for decades. And, yeah, he is a fine musician.
I had no idea that you were a lefty (unless as David C mentioned you flipped the vid). I am a lefty through and through.
In addition to what you wrote about the first verse lyric we'll mention that the two word alliterations added to the coolness of the idea.
And, as always, of most interest to us is that your vocal and guitar chops had soul. Folks either get that or they don't. 'nuff said.
Enjoyed it and what a return to the forum!

Nice video and cool blues rock song. The mix freaks me a little with the almost Beatles split of the drums... Nice bit of SRV really. Cool. Rayc, thanks for taking time to listen, but especially for the comments. I added a blurb about the drums in the original post which wasn't there yet when you commented. Great singing and playing, good song, lyrics were okay. Well done! Thanks for listening TuneMonger. Yeah, I know the lyrics were different from the norm for blues songs, but there was a method to my madness. In response to your observation I added a blurb to my original post that explains how the lyrics were developed. More thought went into them than one might suspect at first listen. I'm an old-timer on the forum, but I've been gone long enough that I don't recognize your name. I'll be watching for your posts now that you've made contact! Pat!
Goosebumps! Now THAT is some great Rockin' Blues!!
A good Blues write. And very well sung. The mix is good - a great "live sound". Drums and Bass are solid. Your guitar tone is a delight.
There is a terrific "musicality" to your Blues. A treat for the ears. Superb solo - really musical.
A real treat to "just listen" - a few times and I'll be back for more. You definitely need to do this more!!! Woooo!, inded!!!
Great to see ya back in the Showcase.
fj Hey thanks for listening Floyd! In my opinion, your musical intuition about what works and doesn't work is wayyyy better than most, so I appreciate and respect your opinion.. paying special attention to the song attributes you choose to mention. Especially since my musical goals are somewhat different than the common denominator in the forum, I appreciate that you evaluated the song as a live performance, not as a recording. This is, after all , a showcase where people show how they use BIAB.. and my use of it is for creating tracks that will be used live. Period. As a live performer, I do focus on things like guitar tone and musicality, the two primary things you mentioned. For you to recognize my intent means you listen honestly, and to me that is the absolute best I can hope for in any human interaction. If words were trophies, "goosebumps" would be golden. Probably the word we all want to hear, but most listeners aren't kind enough to unleash it. Thank you. Pat, my favorite part was the woooh at the end. It’s great to hear from you again. You have made a lot of people happy with your appearance here. Glad to see you bought a ticket on the blues train. All aboard! Super riff. The harmony pedal was just the right touch. Good solo with some fine note choices. The vocal is soulful and committed to the excellent blues lyric. This is the real deal for sure! We will be near Wilkesboro for the month of July. Get ready to jam. See ya soon, Tom If I had known that, I'd have skipped the song and gone straight to the "WOOH!" LOL. Regarding the metaphor of buying a ticket on the blues train, I think I have the lifetime senior citizen pass. I'm happy to hear that the harmony pedal worked. Earlier versions involved multiple overlays of played harmonies... and while there was something I liked about that approach, it diluted the throaty growl of the groove, which to me was the one thing about the song worth preserving. The original song also contained horns, organ and piano, but they competed rather than added, so they had to go. I kind of like Herb's philosophy that mixing is a subtractive process more than an additive one... and in this case, I like the minimal version best. Regarding Wilkesboro, by now you've already read my private message. Tommy... thank you for listening and commenting. GREATLY appreciated! Hi Pat love it great vocal and perfect energy all the way through really well done hope to hear more thanks Eric Eric! Thank you for listening and for noticing the energy. Must be the vitamin B-12. No wait, it's definitely the espresso machine.... Pat, you have been holding out on us! This is fantastic. Great live feel for sure. Super guitar chops! Great vocal! Outstanding groove, mix and video.
You definitely have to upload more now. Mario my friend! Man, we had a great time at Lake George didn't we? I totally enjoyed hearing you sing in your most recent song about the guy whose truck left him. Hopefully that won't be the end of your vocal pursuits. But then, your instrumentals are awesome so you'll never hear any complaints from me about another instrumental! Thanks for taking time to listen and comment! You probably will hear more from me. I made a new year's resolution to focus on writing music this year, so we'll see

Congrats on your first original blues song! You done good.
You nailed it! Well written, and performed. Loved the live look/feel/sound you accomplished.
I'd drop a few bucks in the tip jar, but the beer bill and wait staff got all my money.
Nice job!

Hi Pat ...
I'm on my third listen as I type this. Three times hardly seems enough to fully appreciate the musical quality in this cut. Simply awesome in every possible way. And yes ... definitely sounds like a three-pierce, live band. I played in a few those way back when.
Love the sounds. The FX contributions gave this a distinctive sound that's killer! (Cranking up the video for listen #4). I told my feet to stay still ... they wouldn't listen. My chair dancing isn't very pretty.
So nice to have you active on the forum again. Not only do you perform like a master, but your reviews always teach my something.
Di told me to tell you "Hi, Pat!" She and I still have conversations about how much we enjoyed your visit a few years back.
Best Blues song I've heard in more than a few moons. We hope you post a few more originals. That would be a real treat for all of us. Wishing you everything good. Take care ...

That was the ONE AND ONLY SOLUTION ! Absolutely super played and performed ...AND SUNG too, my friend !
You know, I didn´t know you were such a good singer, had I known before I would have opted for a collab on our voices too !!!
And your playing.....I´m awed !
All in all, this was something absolutely special !

Hi Pat Like others have said, that's a solid blues, really well played and sung. I also enjoyed reading about how you approached the lyrics, which you clearly put some thought into. Look forward to hearing more of your originals. Regards, Leon We only get a limited number of minutes on the planet, so I appreciate your willingness to spend a few of yours listening to and commenting on my song, Leon! You are another forum member who is new to me so I'll need to look back through the months of songs I've missed to hear more of your work... but what I've heard so far has been very much to my liking! Well.....hell..... I certainly was NOT expecting THAT!
I had to double check that I hadn't clicked on something else.
Man.... I was duely impressed. I got a Pat Travers riff rock vibe from that.
Nicely done. You just raised the bar for everyone including yourself. Loved everything about this from the driving riff undergirding the entire song, to the very tasty solo, to the vox.
Loved it. Hey Herb, thanks for responding, and for saying such nice things. I think you already know that I hold you in very high regard, not only as a musician and recording engineer, but also as a human being. In my opinion you are one of the smartest people I know. In fact that trait is fairly common among the people I've met in this forum. Yeah, I know posting a video is almost a violation of forum expectations. Most people link directly to sound cloud. But as a showcase of how people are actually USING BIAB, what I posted is what I do with it. Thanks again for your review, and I hope that as a fellow NC resident, our paths cross again in the future. Hi Pat, It is great you are back and that we are able to hear your music again.
That was a really good blues song and a nice production. It was interesting to read about how you did it and I think the end result was quite good.
Top vocal performance too!
Thanks for sharing! Will thank you Will! I appreciate your willingness to listen and comment... listener responses provide the best feedback and this forum provides a gentle way to receive guidance in future endeavors! I like what I've heard from you so far and I look forward to hearing much more of your work! Eddie, you are a man of few words, so I'm going to consider this review in terms of the number of exclamation points used. I am very happy to recieve a 3 exclamation point review from a man of your high standards! (Hopefully we're not using a 10 exclamation point scale. ) Wow! That pretty much sums it up. Out of curiosity, are you a lefty, or did you just flip the video? It took a while before I figured that something was "off" about the video. I appreciate the cleverness that went into the lyrics, but honestly, when someone plays the blues as well as that, you could be singing nonsense and I'd barely notice. A lot of work on the drums, but haven't you heard? Mono drums center panned are the new big thing. OK, just being silly there. But seriously: Wow. David, thanks for weighing in! Gotta love any review that contains the word "WOW" (although I'm fully aware that it can be used to make a negative statement. Ask any wife) In answer to your question, I am NOT left handed. The web cam is reversed because on streaming sites I frequently use green screen and put animations in the background. Unless I reverse my image, when interacting with the animations I always move my head in the wrong direction. So reversing the image allows me to respond as if I were looking into a mirror, which is intuitive. I was just too lazy to change it back for this video. Shifting the topic back to you: I hope there are more horn songs in your pipeline. I can't adequately articulate how much I enjoyed your most recent song. Just golden! Really good song, authentic blues and lyrics... and yes, it just needs that studio clean touch to be ready for the world to listen thanks for listening and commenting. I agree wholeheartedly, but... I didn't get the recording engineer gene. I have tried. I have read articles and watched videos. Apparently me learning how to mix is like a dog learning how to solve algebra problems. Even a smart dog can't do it. I'm smart in some things but apparently mixing isn't on the list. Back to you: I'm seriously enjoying your songs! Keep them coming!

Lonnnng reply, but there are new and wonderful songs on page one, time to clean up the replies and let this one scroll away into archive oblivion. ---------------------------------------------- Pat, I reckon you nailed it.
Knock out set of lyrics.
Great driving beat.
Perfect melody.
Three out of three. Perfect score.
Really enjoyed this. Quite a classy croc. Wow, I wish you had been my teacher all through school... maybe I'd have passed more tests! Thank you for listening and taking time out of your day to share your thoughts! I really do appreciate it! You mentioned the CLASSY CROC logo that appeared behind me in the video. For the benefit of anybody who doesn't already know, that's the name I go by when streaming online... not because I presume to be classy, but because the phrase "classy croc" is pronounced approximately the same way as "classic rock" (which is what I play for the most part) ---------------------------------- Wow Pat did I ever enjoy that one! I haven't heard any of your work before and that was a great introduction! I loved the guitar work and tone...absolutely fabulous! Same goes for your vocals! Great "live" sound you have crafted to go along with a super tune! Some of the best blues I've heard here! T Thanks for the "wow" Torrey! You haven't heard any of my work because that's the first I've posted here, except for some animation songs several years ago. But I've heard YOUR work, and it's AWESOME! I greatly appreciate the encouraging things you've said about this song. In fact the encouraging quality of this group as a whole is to be commended. T^hank you! ---------------------------------- Pat, I remember your funny animation posts from years back; this is a head turning welcome surprise! Quality and authenticity throughout- hard to believe this is a first self penned blues, but your influences have been absorbed and this is simply great driving almost-live music. Keep `em coming! Robert Thank you Robert! I'm happy to know there are still people here who remember the animations, silly as they were. Old men still have to play, and retirement gives us time for it. It is somewhat odd to imagine that I never felt the urge to write original music. It isn't that I don't like music, its more that I don't have a statement to make. The bests songs, (in my opinion) are statements. Thanks for taking time to listen and comment... it is more than a platitude when I say that I greatly appreciate it. ---------------------------------- Excellent tune. Just loved the vocal. Was perfect for the backtrack. Video was very cool as well.. Thank you Scott! You are very kind! You said all of the things I could have hoped to hear! Thanks for taking time to listen and review! I will return the favor ---------------------------------- Well, we are both suckers for blues trio...they are right square in our wheelhouse!

J&B Ah, Janice and Bud! So glad you weighed in! After posting I kept checking back to see if there was a reply from my mountain biking friends in Georgia. If you hadn't replied, I'd have been devastated. (No pressure... just sayin') Do you have any links to music by your friend? You have my curiosity all stirred up... NOT a lefty.. I flipped the video to make it more intuitive when recording with green screen. With video NOT flipped, I tend to turn my head the wrong way when interacting with animated characters in my streamed shows. Another proof that I'm not left handed is that left handed people have the reputation of being highly intelligent, which I'm not. Thanks for the comment about soul. I'm very much an introvert, and I have struggled with presenting myself on stage in front of people. The best cloak to hide behind has been honesty. I might look like a total dork when I play, but its honest dorkness, not contrived. Thanks for the gracious "welcome back" ... feels good to be in the presence of friends. ---------------------------------- Congrats on your first original blues song! You done good.
You nailed it! Well written, and performed. Loved the live look/feel/sound you accomplished.
I'd drop a few bucks in the tip jar, but the beer bill and wait staff got all my money.
Nice job!
moto Hey Moto! How did you know that here in the south "You done good!" is high praise? You made my day! Tips not required, I play for fun not for money! LOL I identify with your comment about "beer bill and wait staff". Thanks for taking time to listen and respond... I don't take that for granted, and I appreciate it when it happens! ---------------------------------- Hi Pat ...

Alan & Di Wow, Al... if I had made a list of all the things I wish people would notice about the song, your comments checked every box! What a comprehensive review, and I really appreciate it! Please tell Di that I echo her hello, and I remember that visit too! We had a great visit, didn't we? I'm working on more originals, but I'm not nearly as prolific as everybody else on the forum. I am amazed by the number and high quality of submissions to the showcase. Its mind boggling. I can't keep up, but I'll try to insert my 2 cents every so often. Thanks again for your wonderful review, my friend! ---------------------------------- Hi, Pat !

Cheers Dani Dani my friend! Thanks for listening and for responding! This is a surprise because I thought by now you might already be in Spain... so glad to get a review before you're away! Thank you! You say such kind things, I don't even know how to respond... I'm not even sure I should dare to believe the kind things the good people of the forum have said... but I appreciate the encouragement that issues forth here. Thank you! ---------------------------------- Sounds AWESOME to me!!!!.........so soulful!! LOVE the vocal, and just the sound of the mix......has a vintage feel....my era!! GREAT STUFF Pat.....keep posting!!! Take care. Greg Greg ma man! Thanks for weighing in! I think you know you're on my "favorites list" so I am especially happy to hear your thoughts on anything. Gee, I'm glad I don't have to pay for each exclamation point or this would be a potentially expensive reply.. LOL! I love your last song. It seems to have scrolled off page 1, but I added a comment yesterday... check it out.

Hi Pat,
Thanks for your kind reply. And what you wrote is very true. (regarding the topic of musical modesty: taste is very subjective, and there is little upside to overstating one's talent. It never ends well. Best thing is to do my best, put it out there, and the chips will fall where they may. I can't control anyone's opinion, but I can control what I put out there.)
I don't think I will ever overstate my talents. I like what I do, I like to learn and I know my shortcomings. But I also know my songs are not bad. And I think that's the case with you too, but i might be wrong. Your song is just good!
We'll meet again, Hans

What a lively 'first' original song. Heard some great playing, liked the riff and you sang my blues away my friend. Hoping you make posting originals here on the forum your next 'bad' habit... (keeping with your lyrical construction - ;0 ) I enjoyed my listen.

"Whoo!" is right! Fantastic lyric and delivery. Such a blast to listen to. You nailed that live sound. I wouldn't have been surprised to see some video angles of your two band-mates. Just outstanding. Now THAT'S entertainment.

Loved the "wooo" at the end! And everything else about this.
Very cool riff throughout, quite infectious, and nice solo too, very tasteful.
Blues is my main thing, although we don't do much pure 12 bar stuff anymore. But, listening to this makes me want to try and do a new one.
Lot's of fun watching you do it "live" too.
Loved it and hope you do more of these, very enjoyable to watch.

Congrats on your first song post. I've always enjoyed watching you live. You're very talented. Loved it. Josie Josie! I hoped you'd give a listen before it scrolled away forever! I hope you know that I hold you in high regard not only for your talent but also for your relentless encouragement (to me and all the people on the forum.) I still remember and cherish all the kind things you said after my first streetjelly show. Your encouragement is probably the only reason I didn't quit streaming right then and there. I'm still catching up on posted songs after a long absence from the forum, and I haven't found any songs by you yet. If you can provide a link, I'd love to skip straight to your song(s). Thanks for taking time to listen and touch base! What a lively 'first' original song. Heard some great playing, liked the riff and you sang my blues away my friend. Hoping you make posting originals here on the forum your next 'bad' habit... (keeping with your lyrical construction - ;0 ) I enjoyed my listen. Hey Charlie! Thanks for taking a moment to listen and reply. So sorry to hear about your lovely wife. I understand how you must be feeling now and for the foreseeable future. But you are a survivor. You will adapt, even though right now it probably doesn't feel that way. Next time you visit Jim in Winston-Salem, steaks are on me if you let me know you're in town. (assuming we can find a steak house that is open for dining inside) "Whoo!" is right! Fantastic lyric and delivery. Such a blast to listen to. You nailed that live sound. I wouldn't have been surprised to see some video angles of your two band-mates. Just outstanding. Now THAT'S entertainment. Hey Tangmo! Thanks for stopping by to listen! I love what you're doing, your most recent song is awesome! I like to put animations in the background, so you never know when a future video might consist of me plus a band of assorted animals. Thanks for the idea...
Hey Dave, thanks for the kind review! I cut loose a "whoo!" when I heard your most recent song too... its quite a good band you have going there! Thanks for noticing the infectious riff... part of my intent with most of my songs is to ramp up the energy level. Simple, but driving is my method. And yeah, I hope you do manage to work your way back to some original blues, I bet your band would put a really exciting spin on whatever you deliver to the audience! Can't wait to hear when it happens!
