Hey Torrey,
you said you don't hear the Beatles in this but I can't believe there wasn't an intentional homage to PAPERBACK WRITER... there are places near the beginning of the song where the word PAPER, the melody and the backing guitar are close enough to think instantly that's what you're shooting for.
Anyway, having said that:
I really like the way you presented the chorus. Very interesting harmonies that work. (when I say "interesting" it isn't always in a good way, but in this case it is). The way you have approached this song is so different from anything I would have thought to do that it just makes my jaw drop. Where on earth did THAT idea come from?? But the skill of the craftsman is in taking a bunch of pieces and combining them together into art.. and that, my friend, is what you have done here. I think this is an outstanding job of building a song out of various ideas presented via collaboration (something I have never learned to do to anyone's satisfaction)
The message of the song made me smile. Coming from a background of a church where everybody has a bible full of hand written notes, the idea that somebody would need a certain KIND of bible to write on seems totally believable to me. And you developed the theme credibly. Very impressed.
Some of the lyrics were laugh-out-loud funny... such as "to help him remember what he has done wrong" If religion is good at anything, its good at that.
Your ability to juggle 50 tracks and bring it to fruition without sounding like a dump truck of mud says a lot about your mixing skills.
I stopped hanging out on the forum around the time you joined, so I'm not real familiar with your work, but put my name on your list of fans. I will be watching for more from you.
