Have the drums play at one tempo and the rest of the track play at another?

Thanks for the help in advance.

You can change the time base of RealTracks and RealDrums to halftime or double time, so those differences are easily done. To make different tempos other than those, I’m not sure. It’s possible freezing a track or saving to the audio track might help. Can you be more specific about what you are doing?

Probably easier in Realband.
Change tempo, generate drums, and then set tempo back and generate or record what you want.
Are you trying to match the drum tempo to prerecorded audio? If so, the ACW may be what you want.
With this you can set the tempo to match the prerecorded audio.

I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

Oh, yes I am sorry. I should have been more clear.

Since you can only have 4 chords to a measure. You can't put a chord on the and of the beat. So I figured if I use 2 bar a measure then I could put chords on the and of the beat.

You can already expand a song form so that what was one measure becomes two. Then you adjust the tempo and find a style that works.

Nortonmusic offers expanded MIDI styles that do this.

I am going to try the reduce feature when I get home. Hope this does the trick.

If I read your question correctly, you want to expand rather than reduce.

If I expand would that make the chords play twice as long? I want the two measures to equal one measure. So would not reduce work better? Making one bar equal to half a measure instead of a full one?

I'll try both options and see what I get.

If you expand, which will make one chord in one measure into one chord over two measures, then you must double the tempo so the chord sounds for the same amount of time as before. Try it.

You will probably want to adjust other things, like the style or time bases, but if all you want is more places for chords, this will do it. Don't give up. Tell us a specific example or post the song here and we will help.

I hear what you are saying about not giving up. I wanted to do Back in Black by AC/DC(or any other AC/DC tune). Since they are my favorite band. I have decided to just put everything on the beat and call it a day. I want it to be my own version anyway.

I have been using Band in a Box for years just to practice playing over basic chord progressions. I was just trying my hand at doing a whole tune for once. Finding out real fast that anything that has upbeat progressions or more than four chords a measure is pretty much a no go. I am ok with that. Jazz standards are just as fun to play.

Maybe one day we will be able to do such things.

The workaround I showed you allows you to do more than four chords per measure. Just change your thinking about what a measure is. The notation won’t be right but you can make the song sound right.

Isn't there also a Push feature that would allow chords on the upbeat?

Also check out this program called Bandora from,

https://www.fortenotation.com/en/2018/11/bandora-automatic-arrangements-with-3-clicks/

Just did a google and it seems the below link is also selling it where you can get a free trial version.

https://bandora.com/en/produkte/

It will allow you to put eight chords per measure (I just tried it) it used to be called Jammer pro, but was abandoned by developers until the lot above took it over.

It is all midi though, and does require a little more work than band in a box to get a track going, but in my opinion worth it.

I created the following song with it (with the exception of the guitar riff)

End of the world

It's the drums. They just don't work. I always get four beats per bar no matter what I do. None of this works if you cant get two beats per bar.
Speed it up, slow it down, reduce, expand. Always four beats per bar.

Everything else works great. I guess I'll have to either edit the drums or just leave them out.

You can create a 'Back in Black' style, and you can kind of approximate the main riff if you want, using RealTracks with shots and pushes. I tested it out - maybe this will give you some ideas.

This is an even 8th hard rock style at 90 BPM. The RealTracks I chose are below. You might be able to find better ones closer to the tempo.

1000:Guitar, Electric, Rhythm HardRockLAFuzzyHeld Ev 120
1001:Guitar, Electric, Rhythm HardRockLAFuzzySync Ev 120
387:Bass, Electric, Metal Ev 085
RealDrums: RockHardLA^4-a:Snare, HiHat , b:Snare, Crash Ride

Prior to typing in the chords I just specified the song structure. There's an 8 bar intro, which is followed by an 8 bar verse and 8 bar chorus. Put an 'A' part marker at the start of the verse (bar 9), and a 'B' part marker at the start of the chorus (bar 17). etc..

After that I generated and froze the Drums track. In the mixer, the snowflake symbol next to the M and S buttons is the freeze button. The reason I did this is because I want it to ignore the pushes I'm about to enter.

Next I entered the chords like so:
|E5.. ^D5.. | ^A5.. |
The two dots is a shot, and the caret symbols are eighth pushes (chord plays before the beat). You can copy paste this several times, or you might put a variation at every 4th bar. The chorus is straightforward, with no pushes or shots.

Note - if you have a song in mind you can often use the Titles database to find an appropriate style - this can be accessed from the top-right corner of the StylePicker. In this case I didn't like the style it chose, but it was still useful as a starting point, giving me feel, tempo etc

You can set any RealDrums track to half-time. Open the RealDrums Picker and select it from the drop-down menu at the bottom...

Andrew, could you post the song, so the OP can see it for themselves, or did you do it and I missed it?

I uses Jammer Pro until the stopped supporting it, then I went to BiaB. If Bandora keeps developing it this would fit the bill for those of us in MIDI who want more chords per measure, all time signatures, and the ability to voice chords. IF is the key word there.

There are a few other MIDI programs out there like ToonTracks MIDI, Scaler, etc, that show how far behind PGM is on the MIDI side. I know that RTs and RDs are the cash cow for PGM and they do a great job with them. I also know that BiaB has a ton of MIDI styles, as does Notes, that the other competitors don't have, but are times a changing? YMMV

Well, things seem to be going well. This is what I have gotten so far. The sound does not match up with the video. I will have to figure out how to fix that.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JEsnR0UtwG8&feature=youtu.be

What do you all think? I am very happy that I can do this. Any tips is welcome.
