I installed build 818. Switched from a Real Style to a MIDI style and all tracks everything played back.
I will update if problem happens again

Excellent news. (The "Check for updates" apparently incorporates some date stamp check also. I think it only does the test after a specific time has elapsed since the last test/update.)
