I really admire your creativity and ability to make songs that really touch me lyrically and musically, some secret ingredient that make them my favorites on this forum. Superb chording, it reminds me of some old song, but doesn't disturb because in the chorus you add much more interest to the song. The arrangement is great, the combination of the fretless bass and the baritone guitar is honey to my ears. Excellent lyrics, has kind of feeling that the guy could break any minute, but yet he carries on. Fantastic solo has very heartbreaking mood, like fighting to keep things together, I really like how the percussions add another level. I could listen to the solo on repeat forever...
Thanks for yet another masterpiece!
Janne

hey Peter, what I like: - The chord progression - the way it escalates from a fairly minimal production at the start to a full-blown multi-layered sound fiesta - the fact that you played some of the tracks yourself - the twin guitar solos... probably my favorite part of the song, both in terms of content and mood - the fact that your solo contains a recurring motif... __which after all these years is still the thing I find missing in so many songs posted to the user showcase. - lyrics I never had a woman leave me, but as a widower I identify with the phrase I used to think I would be helpless if you left me But still I carry on I guess I must’ve had some deep reserves to draw on Cause still I carry on Nice work Pat Thanks for the detailed and thoughtful review. Much appreciated. Peter

Cool tune. It reminds me of some british rock I've heard.
The thing that threw me was the first part has a swing feel to it, then somewhere right before the band kicks in it changed to an even feel. Am I wrong on that or did I simply miss the even tempo start?
Nice playing on the live parts. And yep.... Good vocals too
Thanks Herb. I played the acoustics at the start and the bass is the same all through so no deliberate swing that I'm aware of. Peter

Peter & Leon, A stunningly good build - lyrically and musically-into those twin lead guitars that takes this to a taught, tense ending. Some great lines in the lyrics, strong vocals and fine, fine lead guitar work adds up to one of the best songs I`ve heard from you. Very well done!
Robert

............. I couldn't have said it any better. This is a masterpiece. The way it builds reminded my of the band Boston. Great vocal, outstanding lyrics, and as usual fantastic guitar work. Thanks Mario we appreciate the praise. First time I think one has been called a masterpiece (you are too kind). Peter

Intriguing changes and interesting lyrics. Great write, Peter and Leon. Man, that fretless bass seems to really emphasize the lyrics. "Not a man whose life was robbed of any meaning When you walked out the door" Love that guitar work, too.

I agree with the "haunting" assessment. Good write !
Double guitars ad some real interest.
Moto Thanks much appreciated. Pete

+1 to what's already been said! Pat did all the hard work talking about the song elements, and fj the analysis of the lyrics. I especially loved the ending! Thanks David. Peter

Someone mentioned the word "masterpiece" here. I agree. Love the variations in melody, texture, etc. ... and the dark mood, which - to me - elevate it to such status. Not a boring moment in the song, not a "here comes the melody again" moment or something. Every time the melody does return, it feels like it has been varied in some way. In short: what a brilliant job. That ending, too ... with the guitars ... yes!!! Congrats.

That's a good one Peter and Leon! I really like that walking down pattern in the verses and that chorus really packs a punch! The instrumentation creates the perfect vibe for this! A super song which I feel is one of your best! T

This is a great song, sung and produced well. The outro is so strong that I would have introduced it earlier between verses. But still great as is. Appreciate the comments. Peter

IT's all there guys and it's all good...the write, the vocals, the guitars and that incredible arrangement. Peter the way you used those guitar tracks to build and build and build is way, way standout. It just SOARS! The fretless bass was a great addition...love the slides. Bringing in the drums on chorus was very engaging. "I could do a good impression of a man Keeping it together A single guy, savouring his freedom Not almost at the end of his tether" I want to learn how to rhyme like that when I grow up. Enjoyed it! Very cool!! I always liked dark songs!! AND I ALWAYS LOVE to hear Peter play!! Great job guys!! Take care. Greg Thanks Greg Peter Hi Peter & Leon,
what can I say that the forum's experts haven't already said.
Okay, da capo: great structure - the song 'grows' with every bar. A perfect arrangement, flawless sound and most of all very well sung and amazing work on the guitar. The repeating riff at the end is gorgeous !
Another great collob, guys, a very good listen on an otherwise dark and snowy sunday morning.
Stay sage,
Stefan
Stefan always appreciate your kind words. Peter

Well written lyrics. Good vocal delivery. Outstanding guitar(s) as usual. The electric guitar especially blows me away. Way to make it wail! That guitar riff to end is out of this world good. Good mix. The band was right on time too. Cool song. Appreciate the review. Peter
