How sad, a big hero left our eternal secret inspiration gardens, but his legacy will live forever "Returning forever" through his monumental musical legacy.
Chick Corea, a Grammy award winning jazz musician has died at the age of 79, a statement on his website confirmed.

R.I.P Chick Corea, Master of Masters. Amen!

This is a huge loss to the music world.

Back in my day the only time we started panic buying was when the bartender shouted "last call"!

Wow. Huge loss! I was fortunate to have seen him in the theater in the round here. Chick, Stanley Clarke, Steve Gadd and Michael Brecker. Half of that quartet is gone....

RIP as you Return to Forever.

Wow. This is one that really hits me in the feels.

I saw this yesterday too - it is absolutely devastating news. Hearing Chick on B****es Brew in high school flipped a switch in my head - it was one of the first times I connected with jazz music.

People talk about Chick as a jazz fusion pioneer, which he certainly was, but his earlier work in avant-garde and free jazz is sometimes overlooked. Turkish Women at the Bath with Pete La Roca and his trio album Now He Sings, Now He Sobs are absolutely amazing.

I recommend to everyone here to watch his Tiny Desk Concert from 2016 with vibraphonist Gary Burton, if they haven't already: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=15IHNYq6stw&feature=youtu.be&ab_channel=NPRMusic

Seeing this level of virtuosity and freedom in improvisation is inspiring and still blows my mind whenever I listen to it. R.I.P. Chick Corea.

Cheers,
Deryk

How sad is that?

If ever there was an album that summed up all the great contributions of Trane, McCoy Tyner and Hancock: Now he Sings..., was the thing.

His recent trio with Brian Blade was really abstract, but bristling with energy and youth.

And who can forget the akoustic band with Patitucci and Weckl?

Apart from some of the kitsch and some weird ideas, he had a wonderful sense of humor. His song and band announcements were often hilarious and displayed a humble and passionate musician.

I dig his version of round midnight on the ECM trio record. A really special version.

A little like this one.

OMG! Just saw this. I saw him live twice, the last time at the Catalina Bar and Grill in LA just a few years ago. If just seeing him wasn't good enough, Herbie Hancock was in the audience and he called him up and they did Spain and Maiden Voyage together. Chick stayed on his electric keys and Herbie played the acoustic. I got the feeling that about 90% of the audience were LA heavies.

Our hero's are going fast.

The other time didn't happen to be the "30 years since we last toured" tour by Return To Forever's original lineup?

I saw the June 14, 2008 show at the Dodge Theater in Phoenix. I was 5 rows back from Chick. Fabulous show. I still dream about Stanley Clarke's acoustic & electric bass solo. That tour's stop in Montreux was recorded and is available on Prime Video.

Love ya, Chick. Seriously gonna miss you. Go in peace, brother!
