Tom, Matt brings up a good point however I would not make both changes simultaneously. If you do you would not know where the problem was located. I would change the device setting and see what happens. If you still have the problem then change the USB cable. If you still have the problem try a different USB port on your computer. If you still have the problem then it very likely is a hardware problem.
