90% of the time all I want is a simple ending. And I mean simple. No drum rolls, instrumental noodling, cosmic warbling or other fanfare.
So if you had an ending like “...the land of the free and the home of the brave...” maybe all the notes would just sustain for, I don’t know a measure or a couple of beats but that’s it.
How can you do that?
Thanks.
Michael

If you want notes to sustain, just write the last chord with three periods.
For example, if your last chord is D, just type in D... <enter> and that will do the job.
If you want to stop the sustained sound after two bars, put another chord, with a single period, in the bar that's two bars on from the ending. Since the single period means "rest", it doesn't matter what the chord is.
e.g. |D... | | |C. ||
Information on this is found in Help under Holds Shots Rests.
The settings are also accessed by right-clicking on the chordsheet and selecting "Chord Settings".
I would also add if you want to make the sustaining sound even longer, add 2 to 4 blank measures after the example Noel provided. I use it in bluegrass to make the ending fiddle note last just a little longer at the end and anywhere else I want to sustain the ending. In the screen shot I used that trick to make the tag ending of the 1950's song, The Night Has A 1000 Eyes, sustain until they just fade out.
Note that I set this example song to end at measure 52 even there are no chords after measure 49. Otherwise,the song will not end correctly.

yeah, just insert a few extra bars near the end and roll your own ending.
I do this quite often. End with a hold by typing the chord followed by 3 dots. D... and you got it done. Be sure to add a few blank bars after the hold to let it ring to a fade.
