The track works well. I can relate to the constraints of trying to sing and not wake anyone up!  Your phrasing is good and musical. I've never heard "life to shelve" - it's an interesting turn of phrase. It's not really important, but I'll mention it anyway: There's an unexpected change in POV from the beginning, where the singer is speaking directly to the listener in the first person: But I won't change just because
You want me to ...and then sings this question to... who? And yet I wonder whether it's enough
To meet a girl ...Then again, breaking "rules" is pretty much what music is all about. After all, you aren't writing a term paper!  Nice work - I enjoyed the song.
