I can’t see how you would control the CCs without some sort of floor pedal board. When playing guitar it is hard to control MIDI input or CCs by hand.

If controlling a heap of pedals in the PC using Cakewalk it is possible to apply the sim (THU) on an audio track, turn the sim to an instrument and control each pedal with CCs via the audio track. This can also easily be done. It is also simple in Reaper.

For live performances I have THU setup as a stand alone and using a Behringer FCB1010 MIDI foot controller. Using this it is possible to set up many pedals and features. I have a number of stomp boxes and devices preset including on off for Delay, Reverb, Distortion, AutoWah, Tremolo, Chorus and Phaser. Foot pedals for Volume and another to control the speed of the AutoWah.

This is more than I usually need. I am using less than 10% of the options on the foot controller for live performances. I also have another area on the MIDI controller for Guitar Rig but I don’t use Guitar Rig for live performances.

The foot pedal is also good for controlling stuff in the DAW if that is what you need. Say a foot pedal for volume another to control expression and switches to turn stuff on and off.
