Where I am, the rival drug dealers ARE the target ranges. LOL!!! As I tell people, if you are not involved in the vice lifestyle, you are not in danger. You won't see me out selling or buying drugs where I am a target for a rip. You won't see me breaking into houses, carjacking... That is a territory I have never stepped into. Though, on your 28 acres of woods the rules are different than in a city of 200,000. Where I am EVERYWHERE would refuse you service if you didn't wear a mask. There are actually plainclothes members of law enforcement circulating who will escort you out if you make a scene when asked to make up, and unless you have a health department exemption, you are going to wear a mask if you like it or not. Billy, who I refer to only because it's his thread, lives in a place with 6 million in his metro area. There are not enough people on the law enforcement side to get involved at that level. They are busy working homicides. Here, my city of 200,000, while big to some, is part of that metro area, lumped in with Cleveland. This county I am in is taking this very seriously because should there be a sharp increase in cases, the hospitals are full. As far as your take on masks, once again, nobody ever said they prevented anything. They just corral exhausted air.

We had an incident here early last week where a guy in a store was told to mask up and he gave the young girl a ration of crap, pretty much just plain bullying her. Well, her boyfriend happened to be there. He and his pal dragged the guy outside and beat him senseless. Nearly killed him. And they were not apprehended because by the time the guy came to and called police, they were gone. And of course, nobody saw or knew anything. That kind of confrontation is a weekly thing here. And everyone of the people who ended up a bleeding pile on the sidewalk thought they were tough guys. Remember, somebody is always going to be tougher.

I went into a local music store here and there was some "tough guy" at the front desk who refused to wear a mask IN a business that demands that the customers do. There apparently was some amount of public backlash directed at the owner and, yada yada yada, he doesn't work there anymore.

Just an FYI, Ohio just passed 1 million cases of Covid over the entire year it has been present. 18,500 have died. I wonder if even one of them might have not died had the person who gave it to them had worn a mask as our Governor has ordered? But of course you have the "Cain't nobody tell ME...." crowd. I bet the guy I mentioned in another post who was stomped almost to death was in that group. And those 2 guys told him. With fists, boots, and knees. Over a mask? Is it worth being almost killed in a parking lot to not wear a mask for the 68 seconds you are in a store?

28 acres in the country is not the same as the inner city. It's violent here.

My son works in retail and he has to deal with the morons who refuse to wear masks every day. It's gotten a little bit better because their customer base has gotten used to the idea that as soon as they walk thru the door without a mask they will be told immediately to mask up or leave.

He has sent me numerous security cam clips where idiot rednecks start raising hell about "freedoms" and in a few of them the other customers join in and run those pea brains out of the store. To be honest, I would actually enjoy seeing the no-maskers get a good a$s whuppin' on the parking lot for being so damned selfish and stupid.

I hate wearing a mask more than most people because I really do have a hard time breathing in one. But if and when I do go in public, I have the decency to not put others at risk just to save me some discomfort. I wear the damned mask.

To clear up a bit of what I said, all stores and other businesses require mask where I live.

There are some people walking around my neighborhood who have mask on. Almost all the people setting outside in their own yards facing the street are not wearing mask. Very few people who are walking or riding their bikes have a mask on although they generally have one to put on. None of the kids playing in the street have a mask on.

The science involved in the use of mask is pretty complex. Actually the term "mask" really does not tell you much of anything as there are many types of "mask" that are rated for many types of conditions. They are regulated by the National Personal Protective Technology Laboratory (NPPTL) in the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), which is part of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). All protective equipment has limits. You can put on body armor and it will stop handgun rounds but it will not stop a 7.62 rifle round.

It really doesn't surprise me that some people believe "mask" are useless and mRNA vaccines are also useless. People believe all kinds of things that are inconsistent with the facts. Sorry folks, the earth is not flat...lol Very few people would even be aware of the measurement systems used to define the size of things like viruses. It is not common to know what a nanometer is.

The idea that the mRNA Covid-19 vaccines were developed in less than one year is simply not true. mRNA vaccines have been under development for more than ten years. We had a prototype that we were developings to deal with the MERS coronavirus.

I don't personally get upset with people who do not wear a mask. I am fully aware of how to protect myself from other people's lack of understanding. Some people are like dogs loose in the freeway with no understanding of the danger they are in.

I don't have any control over other people's actions. I can only control my actions.

I try very hard not to get angry about anything. Me being angry at you is like me taking poison hoping you die. I am not always completely successful at not getting angry...lol

I have stayed home for the last year not because I have any real fear of contracting Covid-19 but because staying home is less work than putting a Hazmat suit on to fully protect myself. Actually I have put on Hazmat equipment on several occasions during the pandemic when I was forced to deal with employee issues and coronavirus. I even went to Walmart once dressed like that...lol No one even paid any attention...lol

I will continue to wear a mask to try to protect other people but I am unwilling to set at home any longer. I am willing to take the risk that the vaccine I have taken will provide the protection I need.

Here in Victoria there are a lot of rules in place. Masks are 100% required in public buildings, and you'll get given a disposable mask or will be removed from the store if you don't have one, and can potentially be fined! Stores and other public buildings are limited to certain numbers of people, and many shops have one-way aisles so as to maximize distance. Our government has written some laws revolving around working from home IIRC, trying to get as many people to avoid going to work if possible, and they've given precedence of any vaccines to health care workers, front line shop workers (grocery and food workers), and people over 70.

It's not all good though - schools as usual are being ignored. There are no rules for mask wearing in elementary schools (where my partner teaches), and limited mask use in high school. No rules for handwashing, distance, class size, airflow (in some cases, some classroom windows have been screwed permanently shut!). Our government is pretending like the pandemic doesn't exist for children (which it absolutely does) simply to get kids in schools so parents can work.

I am amazed and saddened at how inconsiderate and weak so many Americans have become. For eight months the Luftwaffe dropped bombs on London and other cities across Britain. The English had to endure the constant threat of death from the air. But you didn't see any Brits lighting up their houses brightly at night during this period because a blackout might infringe on their freedom!

I can easily tolerate the simple inconvenience of wearing a small mask when I go out!

I fully agree! I hate wearing a mask and not seeing my friends and family, but I do it because I don't want to inadvertently kill someone who's more susceptible to illness than I am. It's a small price to pay for compassion and respect.

I have prepared a little document expanding on what I said about my city, but I don't want to subject anybody to it that doesn't care to read it. PM me if you are interested. I have since spoken to a city cop and got more details.

That incident at the convenience store was far more severe (ALMOST fatal) than most, though those confrontations are not uncommon here, largely dependent on the neighborhood in question. I live in the farthest northeast corner of Akron there is and the people here are considerate and care about others, with very little attitude. When asked politely to mask up, most comply. If wearing a mask for 3 minute sin a Dollar General will keep YOU safe from me, I am happy to. I don't get why people will rush to a burning car to extricate someone trapped in it also won't wear a mask for 180 f'ing seconds to potentially save that same person. I hear the argument of "What are the odds I'd give someone Covid", yada yada yada. Well, what are the odds of you happening upon a flipped car in flames? Besides which, you don't have to have Covid to carry it.

I had (past tense) been diagnosed with Covid 19 but apparently I beat it. However, if I were oot and aboot I would gladly mask-up to protect YOUR loved ones. I live in a nursing home among the elderly who are not able to fight it off so I definitely would speak up to offenders.

Hi Donny,

I agree 100%. People at your risk level need to be protected at all cost.

I have a long standing penchant for accepting science. The data on the efficacy of masks and the vaccines is readily available for perusing by anybody inclined to do so. Otherwise one can pick and choose whatever bubble of similar belief systems one likes and, I guess, happily reside there. I'll opt for a peer reviewed science journal.

FWIW, boatloads of salt grain, old man rant, etc. smile

In our part of the world (Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia) we have been extremely lucky. Up until this stage at least we have had little to no local transmission. More recently live has resumed pretty much as normal.

We have never been asked to wear masks but it was advised early in the pandemic. I have masks in the glove box and my wife and I carry them. In total I’ve had a mask on for 30 minutes or so.

If there was any real local transmission the area was shutdown almost immediately. If there was local transmission in states below us the borders were shut immediately. This caused some angst but was usually understood. Usually this resulted in very quick resolution of the issues. There was some inconvenience with some of the restrictions but nothing that would kill you. For me the biggest pain was signing COVID Tracing forms everywhere one went but that did not hurt. Slowly but surely restrictions are easing.

We were lucky from the outset. Both sides of the political spectrum pretty much agreed on processes. The Governments both State and Federal got together in a combined cabinet and worked together. In general not making political mileage out of it (note in general not 100%).

In general there was no thought of conspiracy. Yeh, sure there are some folks against masks lockdowns and anti vaxers but they very much a minority.

I could not understand what the issue is by wearing a mask if it works all well and good. If it doesn’t work well what have you lost. Getting the jab has only just started here. At the moment for over 70s, indigenous over 60 or those with other medical issues. I’m due to get mine on Saturday and will be lined up for it.

Yes we are very lucky to this point.

My thoughts

As well as open minded enough to make their own decision and not follow the sheep. I mask up when I am going to be in a contained space. When I walk the dog on the street I do not, and if I DO interact with another human I am at least 6 feet away, out of air exchange range. I still prefer that nobody bother me though. Indoors OR out. I don't need a new best friend. Just go about your business and leave me alone.

I should work on a song called The Road to Misanthropia... Though I'm sure Rundgren would sue.

Great! The follies of youth in action.

Now they can take new Covid strains home to mom and dad, little brother and little sister, and let's not forget about grandma and grandpa!

As long as this nonsense continues we'll never get Covid under control.

The no masker's and no vaxxer's are putting the entire nation at risk.

Pretty remarkable photos. Pretty crazy with or without Covid-19 . To add to the list Bob, dogs and cats are now getting Covid-19 from their owners. This is thought to be causing heart conditions like humans are experiencing. No one currently knows exactly what the implications of this is.

Most likely not a serious issue but....
