"With this plugin you never have to open BIAB itself." Not true. You cannot import midi files as far as I know.
So I opened BIAB. Imported midi. Added a style. Sounds good.
Opened this file in Reaper plugin:
1 No chords are loaded. 2 Without generate the plugin plays, without hearing anything. 3 The RT have changed. In Biab I have Mandolin 432. Loading the same file in the plugin with Mandolin 599. ?? 4 Generate does work, but after finishing, Reaper crashes and is closed. Every time.
You appear to have several problems here. Given that the BIAB-VST works very nicely for my workflow (at least last time I worked with it) let me try to clarify.
First, the BIAB-VST does not open .mid files. Not a designed feature. It is likely assumed that if you are in your DAW, then your DAW can open and play these files.
1, 2) Regarding the "opened this file in reaper". I assume you mean the .mgx file from BIAB. There is another thread right now in the forum reporting that the .mgx file from BIAB is not opening correctly in the BIAB-VST. I have not had this problem in the past, but perhaps something has changed which broke the workflow?? I will check this out later today and get back to you.
3) Never seen this happen. You need to verify that both BIAB and the BIAB-VST are looking at the same files (confirm file path names are identical). This was suggested in the other thread I mentioned. Also, verify that the tempo is the same. BIAB and the BIAB-VST may select different RTs based on tempo.
4) Have not seen this issue for a long long time. Let me play around with it today.
A well articulated response, MusicStudent! You're right that there are several editing features that are in the main Band-in-a-Box that are not in the plugin version due to the assumption that many editing features are already in the DAW.
Typically the plugin needs to generate first in order for there to be sound/data to play.
What Style are you using?
For the crashing issue, make sure that your Reaper is accessing the latest version of the Band-in-a-Box plugin that you have. You can add/change the VST folder paths in Reaper under Options | Preferences | VST. If you need to change the folder paths here, please click the Re-scan and Apply buttons afterwards. Then close Reaper and try opening it as an administrator. If you do not need to change the folder paths, opening Reaper as an administrator can still help the crashing issue as well.
Hi LeoK, can you upload the song file you're working on? That way we can see why the Realtrack is changing - most likely due to tempo as MusicStudent suggests, but it's best to check.
Could because of a reboot. Could be because of the latest update patch. Probably. It was a big one. Could be I did something wrong.
I can generate now without crash. The RT does not change anymore.
One small thing left. All RT are now marked as N/A in Reaper BIAB plugin. (They are fine in the real BIAB) But I can hear them, mute, sole and change volume. So it is a small problem.
If I double click on this N/A RT instrument I get a menu "Assign Real Tracks to track" with only two rows: <NONE> (Song doesn't overwrite RealTracks) and <SILENCE>. Once again, I can hear the track so it does find the sound file.
Please go to File | Preferences and scroll down to the folder paths for your Band-in-a-Box, RealTracks, and Drums. Are these paths correct? If not, please click the "select" button for each to search and select the correct folders. The below picture has the folders on drive E. If your RealTracks are installed to your internal computer, then it would be on your drive C. If they are on an external hard drive, then it could be any letter between D-Z.
Afterwards open the Style Picker and click the Rebuild button. Your tracks should be found after these steps.

I do have that track, because it works perfect in BIAB itself. I can hear it, mute, etc and no N/A. If I would not have that track, it would not work in BIAB itself.
The problem is only with the Reaper plugin for BIAB.
In Reaper I can hear it, mute, etc but it shows (!) N/A. First image. Double clicking results in the second image.
