I want to perform "live" on Zoom meetings, using a BIAB created backing track. So far, I've used a Scarlett 2i2 3rd gen USB interface, with a RODE NT1 mic for my vocals/harmonica and my backing track on an iPad. I choose the Scarlett as my "mic" on Zoom.
I'm not thrilled with the results so far.
Any advice on making good Zoom performances along with BIAB tracks?

Where are you connecting your headphones to listen? It should be the Scarlet 2i2 headphone jack so you can hear the audio to the computer from the Scarlet and from the computer to the Scarlet without latency or the time it takes for audio to be processed and travel. Does the Scarlet have enough audio inputs for both your microphone and iPad?
I would use a small outboard USB mixer. You would want at least 5 inputs for (1) (mono) your microphone (dynamic or condenser?), (2) (stereo line-ins) your iPad and (3) (stereo digital) your computer audio. The (stereo digital) audio output would return to your computer, most likely through the same USB connection.
You can find small USB mixers marketed for podcasting in many places online including Guitar Center, WalMart, Best Buy and Amazon. The trick is in making sure the device has the kind of connections (line-in, high impedance, phantom power and so on) to work with the devices you want to attach.

Yes, I plug my headphones into the Scarlett.
I'll do some research on a USB mixer and get back to you. I have used one over the years but have severely downsized since we sold our home and now live in a small condo. But, if that's what I need, then so be it.
The Scarlett has two hybrid ins.
You say I'll want two ins for the iPad. I simply connected my iPad to one of the ins of the Scarlett (1/8 in) and my mics are:
I have two mics:
sE Electronics X1 R Ribbon Microphone Rode NT-1A Condenser Microphone
Thanks.

Jim,
I'm confused by your answer. The iPad audio output should be right and left channels or stereo. Are you using an adapter that merges the two channels together or connecting just one channel into the Focusrite? How are you connecting two microphones into the remaining Focusrite input?

It would have been clearer to say: I connect my iPad to one of the ins of the Scarlett (1/8 in) and my mic to the other, using XLR.
Thanks for the excellent suggestion of a private message to one or both of the members who perform live online. I don't know how to do that, but I'll get on to learning it asap.
Since first posting my original question, I have purchased Reaper and have had some luck using that (I have only tested this in Zoom by making videos of test runs and playing them back). I import my BIAB track (wav) in to Reaper and use "Share Audio" in Zoom, and then sing/play along using my USB mic. This way, I'm not using the Scarlett at all.
I also joined the reddit Reaper forum and the Cockos/Reaper official forum, to see if I might learn something there.

To send a private message (PM), find a post by the person you want to send a message to, and click on the name of the person posting (top left of their message). Their user name is a link. You will see Send a PM as a choice.
I've used several Scarletts including a 2i4, and I still have my old Rode NT1 mic. The problem you have isn't with those. Zoom mangles live music just terribly. It is much better if you record your music, then play back the file on Zoom. The trick is to select Turn on Original Sound in the Zoom audio settings of a computer with a decent sound card, then remember to do that as the host when you want to transmit music.

I have now sent a PM. Thanks. Where will I receive the response?
I agree about Zoom mangling music and having better quality if I record first and play back the file, but when I do that, I miss the joy of live performance, so I’m exploring just what I can do to make live performance with a backing track doable.

Watch the video so that the 73 page PDF will make sense. Mac users need 20 or so paged while Windows users need around 60 of them. Zoom Explained In brief: If you're outputting from BIAB, you have to feed the Zoom Audio Driver—read the above. Doable and a bit of a PIA, especially for Windows. If you save the output as a WAV or mp3, you can play that through Computer Audio, Mac & Win — infinitely easier. Same with Mp4 and MOV files through screen sharing (make sure you check the box for Computer Audio). I've been making music over Xoom over a year. Nowadays, music examples are pre-recorded. I'm sick and tired of Zoom Audio. One of the many problems is that Zoom updates often change things and rarely for the better — and if they screw up, the next update changes things again. Your Focusrite interface doesn't matter. It can be anything once you understand how things work. Good luck!
