So I pick another song file, I erase the solo track, I set it to default settings, I choose a midi instrument and get no sound on entering notes. Then I solo the melody track, play it and go back to soloing the solo track and I start getting sound. It seems that strange progress is being made :-) Lets try this on another song file to see if it is consistent.
