The first thing that hit me: the LYRICS. Deej, you are a poet and a half, to say the least. Please take it as the compliment it's meant to be when I say this: I didn't know you had this in you, too :-) . I feel like I've been chopping onions.
"All the shadows that can fall upon our doors
May he never feel their touch
May he never know the fear of real despair
When the darkness seems too much"
Just four lines, above, of such a beautiful prayer. What a prayer.
The song is beautiful, Deej sings it enough to rend anyone's heart in two in the way he sings it ... the music feels here like the perfect foil for the lyrics ... it just carries and carries and carries them. I have to be honest: yes, superb music, superb singing, but ... the message is what carries it to the final level, that where it makes anyone shake on the inside. The music serves to highlight the prayer and what is being prayed for - which I'm sure is the intention here anyway. So: mission accomplished!!! Sincerest congratulations.

There was a really natural flow to the song that I really appreciated that definitely sucks you into the song. I really like the particular arrangement you used as well. Thanks for sharing with us!

All around goodness. The write, the vocals, the fiddle... all good. Well, better than good, but I've only got so many adjectives at my disposal.  Interesting to hear bluesy notes and chords mixed with the maj7th sound, but they work together nicely.

Beautiful lyrics, a very poetic prayer with lots of warmth, love and heart.
The chord progression is very original, enjoyable with all the maj7 chords and many unexpected turns.
The band is perfect for the mood, everything is mixed very well and the solo guitarist fits nicely.
Deej sings again with pure emotion and great confidence. Your collaboration has brought us another delightful pearl.

Thanks all for stopping in. It’s always a treat trying to put words to the wonderful musical productions Christian puts together . . . I never quite know where they will take me. I’ll leave Christian to comment on the chord progressions and such . . . I’m just amazed that a few of you could call out the Maj7 chord usage—I’m just not that skilled musically to pick that up. But isn’t it lovely to listen to?

Very strong message. I certainly would pray this prayer over my son (but I had daughters  ) Really like this one. Some interesting progressions and melody lines, that work for this prayer. Makes the song unique. Vocals are very heartfelt, something important for a prayer. Good write, good performance. Steve

Christian and Deej, this is good beyond words. I'd love to know who came up with the idea for the point of this song. Did the music inspire Deej to write the words, or did Christian have the idea in his head while writing the music? It is a fantastic production. Christian, you said "we've tried to find an equilibrium between the music, the lyrics, the voice and the mix." Man, did you ever achieve that goal! I am the father of 3 boys, and a step-father to a 4th. This song just wrapped itself around me, starting from the very first note. The writing is powerful, the musical production is beautiful. Though both are fabulous in their own right, they both lend strength to the other and would not be the same on their own. It's just a meaningful, powerful piece of music - Don't know why I'm even trying, like I said this is just good beyond words. Thanks for posting.

Cheryl Anne: Wow, how'd you stumble across this ancient tune? I'm glad you liked it, though, and appreciate very much the kind words.
Brad: As Chris noted, he typically sends me a music track and then let's me have at it. Sometimes I can come up with something that works, and other times not (and I think I've struck out on the last couple Chris has sent me). When writing lyrics, it's rare that I start with a specific idea. Typically, I'm either playing the chords on guitar (for my own tunes), or listening to Chris's composition a dozen time or so, and throw out some lyrics in a stream of consciousness until a few lines come that I can build from. So fairly organic approach. And that's what happened here . . . and I really have no idea what the motivation was at the time that triggered this write. But really pleased it hit home for you.
